Description

This 1968 MGB GT is a great example that was rebuilt to a very high standard in the 1990s and still looks good today. It also benefits from some subtle modifications that improve the driving and ownership experience, but retains its authentic 1960s feel.
It looks superb in British Racing Green with chrome bumpers and period correct painted wire wheels. The interior features original black leather seats piped in white, plus an original crackle black facia, complemented by a leather Moto-Lita steering wheel.
It features a 4 speed synchromesh gearbox with overdrive on 3rd and 4th. Like everything else, this works perfectly.
I bought the car in early 2020 for European touring, and am now selling after bringing what was already a very good car up to even higher standards.
It is a very attractive, reliable, solid and useable car that requires no work and is ready to be enjoyed.
Prior to my ownership it’s had just two owners since 1989. The first carried out a total restoration, with a full photographic record, which is included in the comprehensive history file that comes with the car.
The next owner took over in 1998, maintaining and improving the car with no regard to cost.
Even though the car doesn’t need an MOT I had one carried out in November 2020 to maintain its history of all MOTs since 1987 when it was showing 26, 778 miles. It is currently indicating under 66, 000 miles and has passed the MOT first time every year, and has never had even a single advisory - ever!
It is fitted with a factory reconditioned engine, which was refreshed in 2018 at 63, 000 miles. It runs beautifully with no overheating and shows excellent oil pressure in all conditions.
Prior to my ownership it had been fitted with an oil cooler, 12 volt battery conversion and alternator. The suspension was improved with a Ron Hopkinson handling kit plus Spax adjustable rear dampers which are still on the car today.
Preparing the MG for Europe, I fitted a new set of original style Pirelli Cinturato 165HR14 size tubed tyres which not only look period correct, but working with the modified suspension, provide modern levels of handling and grip. I then had my local MG specialist give the car a comprehensive top to bottom service, plus a few extras to improve the ownership experience and reliability such as inertia reel seat belts, electronic ignition and a Revotec thermostatic cooling fan. The rear springs were replaced by new MGBV8 items, further improving the handling, and a new propshaft was fitted. The front brakes were upgraded with an X25 braking kit featuring new calipers, bigger discs and EBC Green Stuff pads so that it now stops as well as a modern car. Finally I had the roof resprayed in October 2020.
The car is very solid and drip-free underneath, having been thoroughly protected when restored, and this has been maintained up to today.
