Description
1982 Mk3 Sunburst Red Ford Escort XR3 Carb - 55345 miles - full body restoration - MOT 31 May 2022, HPI clear always attracts admiration when out - recently displayed at Simply Ford at Beaulieu.
Full body restoration this year to a high standard. Will be classed as historic from Aug 2022 so free tax etc. Comes with spare keys, original brochure, full V5C logbook in my name, Ford audio guide, Ford Escort Owners Guide and various receipts, cost me £77 for classic insurance.
Superb useable classic Ford with sunroof, electric windows, 5 speed and central locking, original Ford stereo. Has been with my cousin for 7 years, prior to this it had been laid up for many years by it's disabled owner. My Cousin stored until restored this year then sold to me in June, he told me the mileage is supposedly genuine and why this is so but I do not have physical proof. Now looks superb with the following work completed.
Inner front wing drip rails
LH Inner Sill, front and rear floor panels
Lower rear corner hatch LH
Front wing LH
Rear valance
Full bare metal respray
Powder coated and refurbished original clover leaf alloys x 5 with all new tyres
New discs, pads, shoes, shocks, springs, bushes
Just had full service including Cambelt, tensioner, waterpump, alternator belt, camshaft, cam followers, oil sump removed and cleaned, fresh oil and all filters, thermostat, temp sender and temp switch.
Very useable attractive car but as always there are a few jobs left and I now have no time I will go from worst to just desireable:
Carb has a cold start/ auto choke problem so a bit lumpy for about 2 mins until warming and then a little flat spot when revving but drives very well - carb could be sorted, refurbed or replaced with a manual choke version.
Gear selector just has a slight notch between 3rd and 4th but I am used to this but not a big job to fit another selector.
Fuel sender unit reads quarter when full then empty when about half but I cannot find a replacement so use the tripometer when refilling.
Although new thermostat, temp sender and switch the car is absolutely fine but if sat in traffic the fan seems to come on when approaching the red so I wired it on permanantly and the car now does not get hot in traffic or on a long run. I have a switch it could be wired to but informed may just be a relay, the heater rad is not blocked and nice and hot blower.
Rear parcel shelf sagged and speaker hole, these do come up now and then.
Stereo needs wiring up.
Dash has 3-4 cracks - these can be repaired or dash changed, these are just above the instruments.
Clock stays on the same time.
Thats it - some cosmetic - some annoying - none serious.
May take an interesting PX
Give me a call, come and have a look.
Regards Martin
