Riley Elf MkIII (1968) – Restored/ Original 998 Engine
The Elf was released as the top of the market (and most expensive) version of the BMC Mini with a finned/ booted body, Riley chrome radiator and a leather/ walnut interior that gave the car a genuine sense of luxury when introduced to the buying public in 1961.
By 1968 the Mk III Elf had received a variety of improvements including the larger/ more powerful 998cc engine, front disc brakes, wind-up windows, fresh air vents and hidden door hinges that improve performance and appearance.
Our lovely Birch Grey/ Old English White Elf has been cherished by previous owners and is in remarkable condition. The car has had considerable restoration over the years with new floor pans, front/ rear sub-frames and an older respray (20 years ago) in original Birch Grey/ Old English White that presents well today.
The history file contains invoices indicating recommissioning in 2012 and more recently a new clutch, steering rack, coil, unleaded cylinder head and brake overhaul (£3, 500 of expenditure)
The interior benefited from replacement carpets during the restoration while retaining the original red leather seats, head-lining and full width walnut dashboard that all remain in very good order – it is like stepping back in time.
With an active owner’s club and values of sixties Mini’s remaining strong the Elf represents an excellent opportunity to enter the Classic Car World and will provide immense pleasure and lots of happy memories to the lucky new owners for many years to come.
