Descrizione
Manufactured in the UK by Standard Triumph in 1964 for final assembly in South Africa this right hand drive Spitfire spent 55 years in a dry warm climate and has never seen a salted road. The result is a rust free body which has undergone a full body off, nut and bolt restoration and there are over 40 photographs showing the restoration at various stages. The car has since covered less than 500 miles and is still in showroom condition. Now back in the UK with a UK registration this is one of the very best of the 20 Mk 1 Spitfires left on the road in UK. The bodywork is finished in white with black upholstery and black carpets and as the photographs show the underside of the car is as spotless as the top. The original 1147cc engine and gearbox have been re-built and the car drives superbly. A new 13'' steering wheel is currently installed but the original 16'' Triumph wheel is included with the sale. The tyres are all new and the wheels are still fitted with their original polished aluminium wheel trims. In addition to the hood and the tonneau cover there is a removable Lenham hard top. The car is registered as an historic vehicle and has had an independent inspection where no faults were found, a full service and has a 12 month MOT. The Spitfire model is celebrating it's 60 year anniversary in 2022 and the best of the Mk 1 are likely to increase in value. This rare Spitfire Mk 1 is a potential show winner and ready for celebration events next season. See the January 2022 issue of Classic Car Magazine for a review of the history of the Spitfire and the Mk 1. This Mk 1 is in superior condition to the Mk 1 featured in the article.
