During the 1960 production year, the Porsche 356B Roadster would replace the convertible D model that had been introduced in late 1958. Essentially the same car, the 356B Roadster was updated to meet all the new 356B specifications. It is estimated that approximately 2, 192 Porsche 356B Roadster models were released on to the USA market. In the years that would follow, buyers would turn their sights to the coupe models and the open-air appeal of the cabriolet and Roadster models would fade. The 1961 production year would be the last for the Roadster model and moving forward only the Coupe and Cabriolet models would be available. Because of this, the early Roadster and Speedster models are highly desired on today's classic Porsche market.
This 1960 Roadster. Chassis number. 88760 is an outstanding example finished in silver with black leatherette interior and complete with full tonneau cover and matching black hood. 88760 was supplied in 1960 by Circle Motors, Inc Long beach California to a Mr. R Fellows. We understand the car was resident in California until it was purchased by a Mr. James Babcock also from Long Beach California in 1967. Mr. Babcock fell in love with this open Roadster and he travelled extensively around America. There are many service records and receipts from his many trips to Denver, Colorado and Tucson, Arizona. In 2013 the car was passed over to his nephew Mr. Kyle Rhorer, who had admired the vehicle and had used it a number of times in the past. We have service records from this same family for over 55 years of this cars life. This 356B roadster has been looked after impeccably as can be seen from the comprehensive service history. The car was originally supplied with Ivory exterior and red leatherette upholstery. In 1972 Mr. Babcock had the car re-painted in silver and re-upholstered in black leatherette. The upholstery was also renovated again in 1986. The receipts for all this work are included in the extensive service history. 88760 is a fully matching numbers car. Also numbered are the luggage compartment catch, rear deck lid and all five wheels, and fuel tank. The documentation includes a Certificate of Authenticity, drivers manual. The is fitted with an original tool kit and jack.
