The Ford Capri made its debut at the 1969 Brussels Motor Show and received a warm welcome from the public. A deserved success after almost ten years of studies and prototypes by the German and British branches of Ford, which in 1965 saw the Dagenham style center prevail.
The Capri represented a particularly ambitious project for the European Ford, which intended to retrace the international success achieved with the "Escort".
The Capri was produced in factories in Northern Europe located in Germany, Belgium and England and, with the same external bodywork, it was offered with different engines depending on the destination markets.
The displacements ranged from 1, 300 - 1, 600 - 1, 700 up to 3, 000 cc, as the maximum engine size of the versions powered by carburetors.
Only later was the injection RS2600 introduced, from which the racing cars were derived.
Few models in the 1970s offered the allure of a sporty yet affordable coupe like the Ford Capri. For over fifteen years this model has represented the meeting point between versatility and fun, all at an absolutely reasonable price, a combination that has allowed the Ford Capri to be produced in 1. 8 million units.
The numerous victories in the Touring Championships, where the Ford coupé won 2 consecutive titles of the European Touring Car Championship (1971 - 1972), made the Capri famous and increased its success.
Also in 1972 he also conquered the prestigious 24 Hours of Spa and the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans (in his tourism category)
