NOW SOLD….
E type S1 2/ 2. Full matching numbers (heritage cert).
I imported this car from Wisconsin about 3 years ago where this car sat in a barn since 1985.
Looking very tired but incredibly solid I was just going to get the old girl up and running and use her for a summer or two, but like most restorations once you start it snowballs.

Anyhow, from front to back every ball joint bearing and bush was changed and where appropriate for upgraded parts.
IRS..
Rear axle/ final drive rebuilt by Alan Slawson, completely rebuilt, koni shocks and race spec poly bush’d throughout.
Front suspension.
Race spec poly bush’d throughout, Gaz adjustables on the front, coopercraft 4 pot brakes, upgraded 1” anti roll bar and new torsion bars (std)

I have used this set up on previous e types and it is nothing short of excellent, the poly bushes keep the ride firm and std set suspension provide a comfy ride whilst the upgraded anti roll bar takes care of the corners perfectly..
The whole steering system was rebuilt in its entirety.

Engine..
Rebuilt using mostly upgraded parts from Rob Beere racing..
2k spent on engineering at Gosnays (50years machining engines)
Rebored +20 thou, hot dipped to remove any crude in waterways, crank was perfect just required polish, then all the end caps line bored on the block, assembled and everything balanced.
New pistons/ rings, all bearings obviously, Rob Beere sportsman conrods, ARP bolts as well as high flow oil pump, upgraded timing chain + guides, crankshaft main seal conversion, block decked etc etc it really does go on, and only the very best went into this engine.
Subsequently the oil pressure never dips below 50psi, remarkable when most E’s are delighted to be showing half that !!

Head was completely rebuilt, new valves, seals, cams etc . Morosso silicone ignition leads, 123 ignition
Everything was upgraded but kept standard for drivability, a good e type is fast enough for the road for most of us.
All this was finished with brand new 5 hole (latest version) progressive 45dcoe webbers, and a Hayward Scott stainless exhaust system.
New fuel lines, Petrol tank, ITG filter etc etc.

Gearbox
Stripped fitted with new bearings all gears perfect, except for speedo drive gear which was replaced, flywheel balanced and new clutch etc.

Bodywork
Very solid car, water had managed to get into the boot area and this had a new floor and surrounding areas fitted with new metal. The inner and outer sills were solid, they were stripped and were completely original, no nasty suprises, the n/ s had some damage probably from loading as did the front section of floor(fork truck no doubt) so as a matter of course these were replaced. All the underneath was taken back to bare metal, epoxy primed and painted.
Wheel arches had a small amount of old repair this was all cut away and replaced as was the inner arch as the lip to which it attached to the rear 1/ 4 was starting to rot.
Doors were absolutely rust free not a blemish and zero filler etc.
Bonnet .. I had two original S1 wings fitted and lower balance these were old stock I had which had virtually zero repairs needed, certainly no welding etc.. the bonnet centre section was upgraded to a S1 spec to take accept the glass headlight covers and rims.
New bonnet frame and picture frame, I had a set of engine frames from an e type race car that were no more than 4/ 5 years old so they replaced the originals.
Every other part was rebuilt, things like wiper motor, heater box, etc.
All wrapped silicon hoses throughout and an expensive ally radiator keep her nice and cool.
Interior was in an amazing condition great patina, so was treated and came back to life brilliantly (not painted!), new headlining and dash recovered etc.
Speedy cables took care of the restoration of the clocks and suitable upgraded to cope with the 123 ignition system.
Brand new wheels and tyres trust me when I say I think you’d be very hard pressed to find another 2/ 2 that has had this much devotion poured over it, and the only reason why was because like anything you import you dont know what your getting really until it arrives, this was so original had never been got at and I believe only 1 previous owner, ridiculously I felt obliged to carry out a decent restoration on it.
Selling as I have much limited space, and have another restoration on the go (Etype roadster) the two cars as much as I’d like to keep ones got to go..
I’ve been in automotive restoration for over 35 years, learned my trade from old school panel beaters .. not from a tub of filler.
You can see the work I do, as at present I’m just completing a full rotisserie restoration.
The car was used on a tour of Cornwall last summer, and a trip to Goodwood revival it has performed as expected perfectly, so far it’s accumulated 2700k miles since the restoration. Loads of pics.. the details below
