We are delighted to present for sale this ex-military late release Land Rover® 90, presented in Drab Olive colour scheme with green wheels. It is uncommon that we get these 90s in the “Station Wagon” format – and even more unusual that they benefit from power steering and such an array of modern upgrades, whilst still keeping to old fashioned mechanical engineering.
Externally, it has all the hallmarks of a ‘good’ ex-military 90 – with the military screw lenses, the OEM (and now very expensive) Goodyear G90 tyres with matching spare mounted on the rear door, rear step for passengers, towbar and electrics, rear bumperettes and front military bumper, which has an eye for quick towing applications. We have elected to leave it as it should be, as both a nod to its original heritage and to keep the outgoing cost as reasonable as possible for a prospective buyer. In our opinion, we think it looks just as it should, and hope those interested in it agree with us!
The interior is also largely standard with the dash still having its military convoy light switch, along with the original floor mats too, which are in great condition. There are a pair of front deluxe seats fitted, along with a central cubby box for storing items off-show and cupholders – much appreciated for that morning coffee run! The rear houses a pair of bench seats, along with a sliding set of rear windows to give a station wagon effect- this gives an airy feel to the cabin, and affords seating for six occupants including the driver, as well as better visibility for all. The rear floor is protected by a load mat.
Out on the road is where this Land Rover® 90 really shines, though – with a 200TDI which pulls well, and starts with the first turn of the key. This is likely due to the low mileage, which equates to just 3300 miles a year since build in 1987. Power steering is fitted, meaning that driving is much easier, especially during low speed driving and the brakes are servo assisted, to give better stopping performance with less pressure. A galvanised rear crossmember has been fitted in times past to protect the most vulnerable area of the chassis from corrosion – as per usual procedure on these military 90s, due to large periods of dry storage and limited use, the chassis survives in far superior condition than civilian 90s of the same age! In summary, if you are looking for a Classic Land Rover® which can carry the whole family, then this could be for you. With a five speed gearbox, TDI reliability, a strong chassis and a low mileage engine, this provides a fantastic, cost effective alternative to a Series – especially if you find them to be a little agricultural! When one considers that in just five years time, this coil sprung 90 with power steering will be exempt from road tax and MOT, this vehicle looks like a very attractive prospect indeed.
