The original café racer graces the Brentford Riviera in the form of this thunderous, UK-built 2005 Triumph Thruxton. With just two owners from new, this incredibly low mileage Thruxton was bought from Jack Lilley Ashford – now Triumph West London – in 2005 and was carefully maintained at the same site for more than a decade.
Despite the constant wave of café racer-style bikes, the Thruxton was the bike that started it all. Born in the 1950s, the original Triumph Bonneville T120 Thruxton racer played a major role in the birth of motorcycle motorsport on both sides of the Atlantic. Dominating the scene in the late 1950s, the bike was named after the race circuit where it took the top three places in the first-ever Thruxton 500 series race.
Following that, the bike and engine went on to win the 1969 Isle of Man TT, where it
became the first production motorbike to average over 100mph.
Reviving the name in 2004, the reborn Triumph factory in Hinckley created the Thruxton 900 – an air-cooled 360 degree twin derived from the company's Bonneville with classic café racer styling to reference its legendary past.
Delivered new with nearly £2000 worth of extras, the bike went on to claim the prize for the Best Modified Hinckley Triumph at the Triumph Riders Association meet at the legendary Ace Café in 2005.
Complete with its original service, owners’ handbook, sales invoice and MOT history, the bike has comprehensive paperwork spanning its lifetime. Despite the extras specced when it was first delivered, the bike was treated to more tasteful modifications in 2006, including SS Thurxton Silencers and racer foot pegs.
The bike received a full service including oil & filter, air filter clean, spark plugs, a full safety check and new tyres in 2021. Today, it stands as one of the cleanest and classiest examples of a UK-built Thruxton in the country.
