Here we have for sale this 1983 Land Rover® Series 3 soft top, previously sold by us back in 2016, and now available for sale once again as the previous keeper has traded into a Series 2 Land Rover® with us.
As the photos show, it is finished in the Deep Bronze Green colour scheme, with green wheels and khaki canvas. The bodywork is a spray type finish, which is not commonly seen at this price point, and nice to note. It has a host of original features which are great to see – the bonnet mounted spare, rear grab handles, rear mud flaps, tow bar, etc. This has been mixed with some more modern features, like the larger mirrors to aid visibility whilst driving. It is great to see that this Series is on a full set of Goodyear G90 tyres with matching spare – these are the choice of tyre in the military for best road holding & off-road performance – they look great too, which is an added bonus. It is nice to note that both the bumper and the cappings shown in the photos are unpainted and in original condition – indeed the originality of this vehicle is perhaps its shining quality.
On the inside, there are three front standard seats, along with deluxe matting to the footwells, and door cards to the lower front doors for that deluxe feel. The rear is fitted with twin bench seats to bring seating to seven including the driver. This then, is a vehicle that the whole family, including the dog, can enjoy together. It is good to see the dash hasn’t suffered with sun cracking as so many have at this age.
Out on the road, this Series 3 has been treated to the ported-out version of the original Series 3 2286cc, with Weber Carburettor. This affords more power over standard, whilst the slightly larger tyres and free wheeling hubs not only give more gearing to exploit the extra power, but also return the best fuel economy possible in the standard set up. So – the period look is retained but the upgrades are most welcome to make driving an easier experience.
In summary then, if you are looking for a Series 3 Land Rover® that can carry the whole family, whilst looking the part, being easier to drive than standard and also benefitting from Tax and MOT exemption (along with classic insurance) then this could be well worth considering.
