This is a lovely little Series IIA, nicely restored and ready for the summer! Its a 1966 Land Rover Series IIA 88" finished in the correct Land Rover Pastel Green paint and with Limestone wheels. It was purchased by the previous owner for over £20k a couple of years ago and he then spent a further £6, 000 making sure the it runs and drives and well as it looked. You now find here a nicely restored car which is fully sorted. You will not win any awards with the car, it is not a concours restoration, just a very good amateur one.
Some ten years after the original's introduction it was felt that the time had come to update the Land Rover's somewhat primitive slab-sided styling. The result was the Series II, which featured the more rounded sides that would characterise the Land Rover from then onwards. Introduced in 1958, the Series II was available with either the 2, 286cc petrol engine or the newly developed 2, 052cc diesel first seen in 1956 on what became known retrospectively as the 'Series I'. By this time the original permanent four-wheel drive freewheel transmission had been superseded by the more conventional selectable two- or four-wheel drive arrangement, with a set of low ratios available if required with the latter selected. For the Series IIA, the diesel engine was enlarged to 2, 286cc and a new 12-seater model introduced on the longer (109") wheelbase chassis.
Under the bonnet of this is the 2. 2-litre inline-four petrol engine, which drives all four wheels through via a four-speed manual transmission and a high-ratio differential. First registered in 1966, the V5C shows just five previous registered keepers. This particular example was subject to a body-off rebuild in 2020. This Series IIa is finished in a classic Land Rover Pastel Green, with a contrasting canvas sand roof, Limestone wheels and black vinyl seats. It rides on period correct 16-inch wheels with Toyo Open County M/ T tyres, which all display healthy tread and are reported to be comfortable and usable both on-road and off-road. The car comes with the spare wheel, mounts and fixings, plenty of receipts from the recent rebuild, and some original Land Rover documents. The vehicle was resprayed in 2020, and as such the paint is in excellent condition. The whole vehicle presents well, with new stainless steel nuts, bolts and screws being used throughout, which gives the car a far more youthful appearance than its years. During the rebuild, the chassis was refreshed with two new outriggers, and a new rear crossmember, after which it was prepped and painted. There were many new parts used to rebuild, including doors tops, sills, windscreen, wiring loom, braking system, shock absorbers, canvas, hoops, tailgate and bumpers.
All of the galvanised parts on the car were sent away for re-galvanising and assembled with period-correct aluminium rivets to help mitigate any future corrosion.
The four-speed transmission, in both high and low range, is reported to be working well. The clocks and lights are all working and have been given a refurbishment during the rebuild with a new glass and bezels. The restorer also had a new period-correct wiring loom fitted. All switches work as expected. The car has just emerged from a significant Service by a Land Rover Specialist and everything is now in order! This is a very attractive car and one that you can enjoy straight away. It is in a beautiful condition but not so nice you are afraid of using her. Please be quick at the asking price.
