Im Modelljahr 1994 wurde die Modellreihe des Porsche 964 durch die Modellreihe 993 ersetzt. Dies war ein bedeutender Fortschritt, nicht nur in technischer, sondern auch in visueller Hinsicht. Der Porsche 993 zählt für viele Enthusiasten zu dem schönsten jemals gebauten Porsche 911. Die Frontflügel des Porsche 993 Carrera wurden breiter und flacher. Wegen des kürzeren Kofferraumdeckels wurde die schwarze Gummilippe, die die Naht zwischen Karosserie und Frontstoßfänger des G-Modells und des 964 bildet, weggelassen. Die hinteren Kotflügel waren ebenfalls verbreitert und liefen mit den höher positionierten Rückleuchten in einer geraden Linie nach hinten. Der Porsche 993 war insgesamt die vierte Generation des 911. Als letzter luftgekühlter Elfer ist der 993 mittlerweile zu einem gesuchten Klassiker geworden. Durch behutsame Evolution über mehr als 30 Jahre gilt er als technisch absolut ausgereift und langlebig.
