Very good example of a motoring icon
The Type 2 may have been an afterthought but arguably it cast a longer shadow than its more famous sibling. Microbus variants spun off into virtually every aspect of our lives, from commercial carriers to camping companions.
There is an army of specialists available to upgrade and improve your early ‘split screen’ which makes personalisation something of an art form. Well planned, carefully specified examples in good condition justifiably command premiums.
This is just such a van. Beautifully presented in two-tone white and red it is in very good condition indeed, inside and out. Upgraded to 1776cc air cooled engine, the photographs bear witness to a very desirable example of this iconic classic.

The trick when buying a Type 2 is to find one that has been converted to a high standard and fits your own style. It would be hard to argue against this one on both those points, its lovely colour scheme and high quality interior combining with excellent bodywork and paintwork. It has been very well detailed and clearly cared for.
Whether looking inside or out, this is a camper that rewards the mind and the heart: it looks great yet is also highly practical with a range of features – some detailed above, others in the photos – that lean into its versatility and usability.
The Mechanics;
Upgraded to 1, 776cc Volkswagen air cooled 4cyl engine
Engine area very well kept with high quality fittings including braided hoses
4spd manual gearbox
New brake master cylinder fitted in February 2021
The sheer usability and practicality of Volkswagen’s enduring classic camper makes it eminently sensible to upgrade the standard mechanicals to something more suited to modern motoring. Fortunately there is an array of in-house engine options available to do this, of which a 1776cc Volkswagen engine is particularly popular.
This lovely van benefits from that upgrade, meaning that it has the performance and drivability to match that practical interior. It is also usefully RHD for UK driving. The history file notes that the clutch master cylinder was replaced in February 2021 and the photographs of the engine bay indicate a well loved and carefully maintained vehicle.
