EXTERIOR
Fresh from a nut and bolt restoration the condition of this RS1600i is exquisite. Immaculately presented from every angle and ready to be shown it’s without doubt the finest Mk3 Escort we’ve seen. The paintwork is fantastic, the lights and trims are first-rate throughout, and it’s as clean underneath as it is on top. Fully stripped and meticulously restored by the current enthusiast owner, no expense was spared in its recommissioning. Many NOS parts were sourced and when replacements were unavailable, original items were reconditioned to an as-new finish. The result is what you see here – an outstanding example that would sit perfectly within any fast Ford or hot hatch collection.
INTERIOR
Opening the driver’s door is sure to put a smile on your face as you’re presented with an interior that looks close to new. The original reclining RS sports seats are remarkably well preserved, the carpets are pristine, and the dashboard is excellent with no unsightly cracks. Everything feels factory fresh with no loose trim panels, damaged plastics, or really any notable signs of use. An original Ford SRT32P cassette radio remains in place and all the switchgear feels reassuringly solid to operate. The boot area is spotless, and the parcel shelf is perfect having never been fitted with any aftermarket speakers.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The time-warp condition continues to the engine bay where every component looks like new. As part of the car’s extensive restoration virtually every part was either rebuilt or replaced including the engine and gearbox which were both stripped, checked over and refurbished accordingly. In addition to the extensive engine bay and underside refresh, a brand new Quicksilver stainless steel exhaust was fitted along with four new Koni shocks.
HISTORY FILE
This beautiful Strato Silver RS1600i was first registered in May 1983. Most recently it has been the subject of a comprehensive restoration where the whole car was stripped back to a bare shell before being carefully repainted inside and out. Almost every component was either refurbished, rebuilt, repainted, or replaced with new old stock parts. Mechanically, the car was treated to a rebuild of the engine and gearbox, and the underside was also fastidiously refreshed with the addition of new shocks and a subtle Quicksilver stainless exhaust. The accompanying History File comprises an original Ford document wallet with handbooks, an original RS1600i sales brochure, a raft of MOT certificates and invoices dating right back to 1983, and the V5C showing 8 former keepers.
