Description

This particular example is a beautiful 1960 Porsche 356 B 1600 Super 90 Roadster from Drauz with sought-after T5 bodywork. The car was originally delivered by the Islinger dealership in Mannheim, Germany to Herrn Bruno Schoechle of Heidelberg. The second owner was Mr Zubile from Stuttgart and a third owner is also mentioned on the copy of the Wagenkarte. The car was delivered new in Reihergrau (light grey) with a Kunstleder interior, Liegesitze (adjustable seats) and Dunlop tyres. Between 1960 and 1966, the car returned to the dealer no less than 7 times for a 'Gewaehrleistung'. In 1966, the recorded mileage was 50, 587 km. After that, we know that the car went to Italy where it was registered in the Registro Italiano Porsche. We are trying to find out more information about the years spent in Italy. According to the build sheet, the car was delivered new with engine no. 800765. During its 64 years of existence - probably in the early days - the engine was replaced by a correct S90 type engine no. 800739, only 26 numbers apart from the first. In 2000, the car arrived in the Netherlands with its first Dutch owner, in whose name we sold it in 2002 to the current owner. The bodywork has been repainted, given a good rustproofing treatment and still shows very well. The underside is straight, clean and in very good condition. The interior has been very well maintained. The car starts easily, runs on 12V and shifts easily. In 22 years of ownership, the car has covered around 30, 000 km of enjoyable journeys. The car is accompanied by appraisal reports, photos of the restoration work, invoices and a Dutch registration document. In 2020 the convertible top was refurbished (€3, 500) and in July 2024 new Michelin XWX 'White Wall' tyres were fitted (which can be returned). A rare Super 90 Roadster delivered new in Germany and offered at an attractive price. It has just come out of 22 years of ownership! The price is 189, 000 euros. Model history Before the Second World War, Porsche designed and built three Type 64 cars for the cancelled 1939 Berlin-Rome race. In 1948, the mid-engined, tubular-chassis 356 prototype, known as 'No. 1', was completed. This gave rise to a debate about the 'first' Porsche car, but the 356 is considered by Porsche to be its first production model. It was created by Ferdinand 'Ferry' Porsche (son of Ferdinand Porsche, founder of the German company), who founded the Austrian company with his sister Louise. The Porsche 356 was a 4-cylinder, air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel-drive car with a unified body and chassis. The chassis was entirely new, as was the 356's bodywork, designed by Erwin Komenda, a Porsche employee, while certain mechanical components, notably the engine crankcase and certain suspension elements, were based on those of Volkswagen and originally came from that brand. Ferry Porsche described the thinking behind the development of the 356 in an interview with the editor of Panorama in September 1972. I've always driven very fast cars. I had an Alfa Romeo, a BMW and others. ... At the end of the war I had a Volkswagen convertible with a supercharged engine and that was the basic idea. I saw that if you had enough power in a small car, it was more fun to drive than if you had a big car that was also supercharged. And it's more fun. It was from this basic idea that we launched the first Porsche prototype. To make the car lighter, to have a more powerful engine...
