L’Atelier des 1000 has the pleasure of presenting today for sale a mythical automobile, regarded as one of the masterpieces in the history of motoring, a Jaguar Type E Series 1 Coupé 3. 8L, in a particularly elegant configuration, dressed in a British Racing Green body that wonderfully contrasts with its burgundy leather interior.
Regarded as the most beautiful car in the world by Enzo Ferrari, the Type E is a refined automobile, destined for modern-day gentlemen in search of moments of escapism.
When starting it up, you immediately understand why the Type E has left its mark on history. The breath of the XK, the precision of the steering, the smoothness of the gear changes, everything exudes mechanical elegance. A car that attracts glances as much as it delivers pleasure.
Our example left the Coventry factory on 16 December 1963, before being delivered to the Jaguar Cars concession in New York on 24 January 1964.
Acquired 25 years ago by its current owner, a passionate aficionado of the model, it has been rigorously maintained mainly by a recognised specialist in the Paris region.
In 2024, over €40, 000 of work was carried out, including a full engine overhaul, restoration of the cooling system, running gear and tyres, and the fitting of a stainless steel exhaust.
A professional appraisal carried out last year estimated the vehicle at €130, 000 and attests to the care given to its maintenance. It has been scrupulously kept in an optimal condition for regular use with reliability.
Mechanically, its original engine block has been preserved and runs superbly; it underwent a restoration to professional standards, with the following principal works carried out:

- Surfacing/ pressure testing of the cylinder head

The overall setup is excellent; the engine is geared for strong torque at low revs and reveals its full power as revs rise.
The exhaust system has also been replaced with a stainless version that superbly enhances the sound of the iconic XK engine.
The Moss four-speed gearbox has undergone restoration a few years ago and performs perfectly; gear selection and engagement are easy, and the clutch, replaced last year with a modern, more reliable version, as well as the receiver, were also replaced.
Cooling system work last year included replacement of hoses and the water pump, as well as radiator restoration.
The running gear is in fine cosmetic condition and performs superbly; the suspension does its job and is comfortable, the braking is strong and well balanced; the front calipers were redone last year and the master cylinder replaced.
Chromed wire wheels are in excellent condition and shod with new Vredestein tyres.
The bodywork is in very good condition; the paint has a beautiful finish, the chrome is sparkling and panel gaps are excellent.
As for the underbody, it is healthy and free of corrosion.
The burgundy leather upholstery was restored in 2018 and excellently executed; the cabin is harmonious, radiating luxury and sportiness.
The carpets, mouldings and headlining are also in perfect condition.
The entire wiring loom has been renewed, and the electrical instrumentation is fully functional.
A cut-off switch has been installed.
