For sale on behalf of the current owner (the 5th keeper who purchased the car from his friend’s widow in 2019, his friend and the widow being keepers 3 and 4 having acquired the car in 2003). Subject to a comprehensive professional body and paint restoration in 2019 (completed in 2021) retaining all original parts and body panels where possible, this is likely one of the best and largely original examples for sale in the UK today with the overall condition backing up the recorded mileage of 19500 miles. An Ashley exhaust has been fitted and the suspension lowered slightly but neither sounds or looks out of place. Numerous suspension components, bearings, electrical and brake parts have been replaced with correct quality parts (original Ford where available or Pagid, Sachs, Borg and Beck etc.).
The engine undertray is still present and there are no speaker holes in the rear parcel shelf!
Two sets of keys (both with working torch), central locking and remote tailgate all operational. Everything works as it should and the cars drives superbly and is commensurate with the recorded mileage..
The Ford Fiesta Mk3 was the third generation of the Ford Fiesta supermini built by Ford Europe. Originally introduced in 1989, the Mk3 represented the biggest change to the Fiesta since the original car was introduced in 1976. The car was based on a new platform replacing the old car's rear beam axle for a semi-independent torsion beam arrangement and it looked radically different.
In the British market, an ‘S’ model of the Fiesta had existed more or less since launch, with the ‘proper’ XR2i launched in October 1989 with an eight-valve CVH fuel-injected engine. This was still the 1600 cvh engine, but this time with the new EFI fuel injection system and the EEC-IV management. It produced 110 PS, 20bhp more than the 1. 6S.
Externally the car came with a full bodykit with arch extensions, side skirts and all new front and rear bumpers with integrated driving lamps in the front bumper. A blue stripe ran round the car and 13” alloys were standard until 1991 when they became an optional extra but which are fitted to this car (and in perfect condition with new genuine Ford wheel bolts and good tyres). Also present was the same tailgate spoiler as the 1. 6S. Inside was also very similar to the 1. 6S, with velour Zolda Shadow trim and the electrical options fitted as standard. Blue plastic “XR2i” trims adorned the carpet by the sills and are present and correct on this example. .
The XR2i was available in Black, Radiant Red (as presented here), Diamond White or Mercury Grey. The Radiant Red certainly lives up to its name and is very striking in the flesh. Viewing of this car is highly recommended in order to fully appreciate what is on offer.
The XR2i was discontinued in 1992 with most examples wearing a J-plate registration. There is nothing obvious that could be done to improve this car cosmetically or mechanically. Ready to show or use regularly and enjoy. Recently serviced and new clutch fitted. There is a recent no-advisory MOT. The overall MOT history records only 4 failures and minor advisories and backing up the mileage. The original Radio will be supplied with the car (with code) to be fitted back if preferred. There are numerous other original new and used spares (some rare) available with the car by separate negotiation.
