Description
Porsche 911 2. 0 SWB – 1965 Originally delivered in Portugal, this fully restored example is presented in a stunning color combination of Schiefergrau Grey exterior with a Bordeaux interior. Launched in 1964 under the original designation “901,” the model was quickly renamed “911” following a legal dispute with Peugeot, who held rights to three-digit model names with a zero in the middle. Thus began the legacy of one of the most iconic cars in automotive history—designed to succeed the Porsche 356, but with far greater ambition and sophistication.
Early versions produced between 1964 and 1966 are distinguished by their short wheelbase (SWB) of just 2, 211 mm, a configuration that, combined with the car’s light weight and classic rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout, delivered exceptional agility. However, it also demanded skill from the driver when pushing the limits of grip.
Powering this 911 is a 2. 0-liter air-cooled flat-six boxer engine, mounted at the rear and producing approximately 130 hp at 6, 100 rpm. Paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, it offered spirited acceleration and a top speed close to 210 km/ h—impressive figures for the mid-1960s.
Inside, the 911 marked a leap forward in refinement compared to the 356, while retaining Porsche’s signature functional simplicity. The dashboard, dominated by five circular gauges, became a hallmark of the brand. The front seats provided solid lateral support, while the rear seats were more symbolic—suitable for occasional passengers or extra luggage.
The early SWB series, built between 1964 and 1966, are now highly prized by collectors—not only for representing the inaugural years of the 911, but also for their aesthetic purity, engaging driving dynamics, and their role as the foundation of Porsche’s most legendary lineage.
