Description
Low Mileage 1968 Daimler V8 250 (PAS) Saloon
A fortune has been spent on this stunning car which also boasts a most comprehensive history, includes invoices dating back to the early 70’s. The plastic wallet and hand books are all still present and in excellent condition, even the original service book with 19 Dealer stamps. Since then, the maintenance has been carried out by the careful owners and local Specialists, with Bills amounting to tens of thousands contained within the numerous History Files. In Spring 2023, the V8 engine was totally rebuilt along with ancillaries, which amounted to £13, 366 and recently, the highly desirable EZ Power Steering System was added at a cost of around £4, 000.
Unsurprisingly. the car now looks very attractive, in Opalescent Silver Blue Metallic. It was featured on the front cover of the DLOC Regional Club Magazine. The interior still benefits from the factory dark blue leather, which has nicely mellowed. The headlining and carpet have been replaced and the wood trim has been re-lacquered with a glass-like finish. It starts easily on the button and the automatic gearbox, which was rebuilt in 2008 at a cost of £1. 515, engages quickly and shifts smoothly through the gears. Brakes are excellent and steering and suspension all appear to have had regular attention.

Historical Footnotes
This Daimler was purchased by its first owner, a Mr Stewart, from A. J. Beal Ltd in Exeter, using a legacy left to him by an ‘Aunt Alice’. In 1988, having covered just 38, 000 miles, the car was reluctantly sold to a Mr Hawkins of Longdown Garage. He used the car as his daily transport, clocking up 25, 000 miles in 8 years. In 1996 he sold the car to a Mr Keen, who kept it for two years, clocking up just 1, 000 miles. In 1996 ‘Alice’ was sold, having covered just 63, 358 miles in its 30 year life. The current mileage still shows only 71, 225.
Marque History
Under pressure from Daimler’s leading distributor, Stratstone, Sir William Lyons introduced a new small Daimler, combining Turner’s splendid 2. 5 litre V8 engine with the bodyshell and Borg Warner automatic transmission of the Jaguar MkII. A traditional Daimler fluted chrome grille was fitted. The new Daimler was quicker and quieter than the six-cylinder 2. 4 litre Jaguar, which it soon outsold. The interior featured the expected levels of luxury, with leather hide upholstery, polished wooden door cappings, window surrounds and dashboard.
Autocar’s S. C. H. Davis, a former Daimler apprentice, declared: ‘This is not a Jaguar with a Daimler radiator grille and name plate. It can stand on its own.’ This was the most popular Daimler ever, with sales of over 17, 800 between 1962-1967.
