Description
This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at the BRDC Classic 2026 - Collectors' Cars on Saturday the 25th of July, The Wing, Silverstone Circuit, NN12 8TN. The 2016 David Brown Speedback GT is a bespoke, British-built 'Grand Tourer' that blends iconic 1960s Aston Martin styling with modern Jaguar underpinnings. Designed by Alan Mobberley using traditional coachbuilding techniques and hand-assembled in Coventry, it features the 510bhp, 5-litre supercharged V8 from Jaguar's XKR and a 6-speed ZF automatic transmission.
To get a better feel for this rare machine, we quote from their original brochure:
"Speedback GT is the culmination of a lifelong dream and the realisation that, in order to achieve classic status, one must draw from the past and then embrace the future. It's a fully engineered, proven and coach-built Grand Tourer, taking inspiration from icons of the Sixties. Each car takes over 8, 000 hours to meticulously hand-build by artisan craftsmen and skilled technicians in Great Britain
Engineered from the ground up with a structurally-advanced pillarless monocoque, Speedback GT provides unparalleled levels of rigidity and strength
Setting the standards for future models, the car has been developed in line with David Brown Automotive’s ethos of absolute product integrity
All Speedback GT's bespoke parts have been fully engineered, machined, tested and refined to exacting standards, whether they are visible or not
The ethos behind the Speedback GT combines both traditional craftsmanship with state-of-the-art engineering and technology. Its hand-sculpted body panels are perfectly formed with accuracy that could rival any mass-produced vehicle
The bodywork is meticulously scrutinised by accomplished paint and bodywork technicians. Over 800 man hours go into achieving a perfect finish.
Our master craftsmen take over 2, 000 hours, working with Britain's finest materials, to create an interior bespoke to each vehicle immersing its passengers in a cocoon of natural grain leather, high-grade veneer, beautifully engineered instrumentation and multimedia technology. The result is a cabin that sets a new benchmark in interior design
The Speedback GT's 5-litre twin-scroll supercharged V8 delivers 510bhp and 0-60mph in an enviable 4. 6 seconds going on to a limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/ h). A maximum torque of 461lb. ft. (625 Nm) provides discretionary performance and ample cruising ability
No two Speedback GTs will ever be alike and with its bespoke exterior and interior combinations, every Speedback GT expresses a style and character that is as unique as the individual."
Forming part of the Collection, this 'as new', left-hand drive David Brown Speedback GT was the second car produced and was used in much of the early press promotions. The glorious dark metallic green paintwork retains a deep shine and the sumptuous Barley and Charcoal interior appears unmarked, not surprising really as the car has only covered an indicated 569km (354 miles) from new. It was specified with unique Borrani Alloy wire wheels still wearing their original David Brown-embossed tyres and, being a press car, it showcased the options available including the split-folding tailgate that reveals a retractable rear-facing heritage picnic seat, ideal for outdoor lifestyle events.
We invite and encourage your viewing of this remarkable motor car to fully appreciate the quality on offer.
