Body / Exterior:
The model presented here is a September 1969 JAGUAR Type E 4. 2L Coupé Series 2 in its original “Cream” colour (matching colour).
The paintwork is today in good presenting condition, showing a uniform shade and excellent shine.
After a professional orbital polish carried out by our workshop, we noted the presence of a few small paint chips corrected on the front bonnet, as well as a small dent on the left front wing A-pillar.
The graduated windscreen and the tinted “Green” glass are in good condition.
The chrome front bumpers are perfectly aligned and in good condition.
The front bumper overriders show a few small marks.
The 4 chrome wire wheels in 15’’ and their matching chrome knock-offs are in good condition.
The whole car is fitted with 4 VREDESTEIN Classic tyres.
These show under 10% wear at the front and at the rear.
This example has retained its original spare wheel and the Knock Off key.
Among the interesting “exterior” options and equipment this car is fitted with, we noted:
The graduated windscreen and the tinted “Green” glass.
Interior:
The interior has kept its strict original configuration (Matching colour / JAGUAR Heritage Trust available) and presents in excellent condition.
The black imitation-leather upholstery with matching piping is in excellent condition, with no tears, no wear marks and no fading.
The black imitation-leather door cards are in good condition, with no signs of stretching and no fading.
The dashboard and its black imitation-leather dash pad are in good condition.
The central leather armrest with integrated stowage pocket is also in good condition.
All of the original SMITHS dashboard instrumentation is perfectly functional, except for the SMITHS clock.
The original air conditioning is not functional, nor is the heating ventilation.
The period MOTOROLA radio is perfectly functional.
The original 3-spoke wooden steering wheel is in perfect condition.
The bakelite gear lever knob is in good condition, with no cracks or splits.
This model is fitted with “aircraft-style” seatbelts in black.
The black floor mats are in very good condition, with no signs of wear or fading.
Among the interesting “interior” equipment fitted to this car, we noted:
The MOTOROLA radio, the 3-spoke wooden steering wheel and the “aircraft-style” seatbelts in black.
Chassis:
Getting it up on the lift confirms a solid body with no apparent structural corrosion.
The fundamentals (body, floors, “Eiffel Tower” area, sills, lower wings, wheel arches and long members) are in good condition. We noted a slight dent in the front crossmember.
Usage reserve: as a matter of principle, we cannot guarantee the alignment beyond their good visual and functional condition as validated during the road test and on the lift.
During the dynamic test, we did not notice any abnormal incidental noises from the body or running gear (ball joints, bushes, etc.).
Braking is balanced, stable and confident, with no vibrations or abnormal noises.
The brake discs show 10% wear at both front and rear.
The front and rear brake pads show 30% wear.
Passing the technical inspection will validate correct operation of the whole system.
Engine / Transmission:
This example is fitted with its original engine (“Matching Number”).
The mechanicals are working perfectly.
The engine compression test and the road test carried out by our workshop confirm that the 6-cylinder engine is in excellent health.
It starts immediately, with no suspicious noises or smoke, and the idle is stable, as confirmed by the 360° video with the engine running, available at the beginning of the slideshow.
On the move, the engine pulls cleanly through the rev range without hesitation or overheating.
Idle is stable and the engine does not run hot.
The oil pressure reading taken cold by our workshop is 40 Lbs at 600 rpm.
Engine start-up is made easier thanks to the installation of electronic ignition.
Engine performance and sound are improved by fitting 3 SU carburettors and an inox exhaust system after the manifolds.
All 4 gears of the manual gearbox engage smoothly up and down without snagging, particularly at the synchromesh.
Clutch feel is good.
This example is fitted with a battery cut-off switch.
As is often the case with older mechanicals, the engine/ gearbox sealing remains average.
