1928 Riley 9HP Mk III Sport Tourer in lovely mellowed condition.
This is actually rather a rare motor car, being the Sport version of the Riley 9 and which features twin SU carburetters as standard giving it a most impressive performance for an 1100cc Vintage car.
With the lightweight fabric body fitted to the Tourers it is a very nimble car and the Riley 9’s famed steering and handling make it most enjoyable to drive. The ride is first class and soaks up most of the bumps on the road. Coupled with a most comfortable driving position it makes a most capable touring car.
The MkIII features rod operated brakes which are often considered superior to the cable brakes which were introduced the following year.
The red fabric body is in excellent condition as are the contrasting black wings. The paintwork is in generally very good order with just the odd age related mark.
The dark red leather interior is nicely mellowed and looks just right. The car has full weather equipment consisting of hood, sidescreens, tonneau covers and hood bag all in black double duck and in very good condition.
Longstone tyres have been fitted all round fairly recently which suit the car well.
The engine was rebuilt in 2017 and new camshafts were fitted. There is a considerable amount of paperwork accompanying the car showing it to be a well maintained and cared for example. It has been extensively in Riley Register events including tours to Scotland and Europe.
There is, however, a noisy clutch release bearing which is not uncommon on these cars. It is booked in with a marque specialist for a replacement.
Also in the folder are some Riley handbooks, instruction manuals and a parts list.
The previous owner rewired the car incorporating fuses in all the circuits and made a proper diagram of the system. Direction indicators are sensibly fitted as are LED bulbs throughout.
This is a car that has been well looked after and is eminently usable for a wide variety of Vintage events or just the pleasure of driving it.
