A charming restoration undertaken in 2014 by the vendor
Benefiting from an overhauled cylinder head, renewed gearbox components and numerous new parts.
Accompanied by restoration receipts and photographs; started and ran smoothly at the time of photography.
Introduced to the Norton range in 1928, the ES2 became one of the marque’s most enduring models. Sharing its robust overhead-valve single-cylinder design with other Norton models, it evolved steadily over the following decades. By the post-war era, the ES2 benefited from plunger rear suspension, whilst later models gained the famous Featherbed frame. Renowned for its dependable performance, torquey 490cc engine and timeless styling, the ES2 remains one of the most recognisable British singles of its era.
This 1952 Norton ES2 was restored in 2014 and is fitted with a period-correct replacement engine dating from circa 1947, as verified by the Norton Owners Club. Since restoration, the machine has benefited from a new Amal carburettor, clutch, rims, spokes and silencer. The cylinder head has been overhauled with new valve seats, guides and exhaust valves fitted, whilst gearbox components have also been renewed.
Accompanying the Norton is a history file containing receipts, paperwork and photographs documenting the restoration. While some wiring and electrical connectors could benefit from cosmetic attention, the machine started and ran smoothly during photography. A charming example of Norton’s long-running single-cylinder model, suitable for club events, touring and local shows.
