Just 66, 000 miles from new
Said by the vendor to be running well
Introduced at the 1988 Geneva Motor Show, the long-awaited full convertible version of Jaguar’s XJ-S featured a reinforced floorpan, frameless doors and a sophisticated electric hood. Underpinned by the same all-round independent coil-sprung suspension and power-assisted rack and pinion steering as its siblings, the soft-top came with anti-lock brakes as standard. With the HE V12 engine installed, a top speed of 150mph with 0-60mph in under eight seconds was attainable. Arguably better looking than the Coupé that spawned it, the Jaguar XJ-S Convertible proved a hit on both sides of the Atlantic. A highly capable grand tourer, it still impresses today as a stylish and luxurious mile muncher.
Perhaps the perfect modern-classic for summer, with the colour scheme of Navy Blue with a Cream leather interior invoking thoughts of sun and sea, this XJ-S Convertible has excellent provenance. It has been in the care of just two members of the same family from new, with the vendor’s grandfather having purchased it from Mann Egerton Jaguar in Nottingham, and the original dealer plates testify to that. He kept it until 2018, since when it has been in the vendor’s care. Prior to 2018, it had been off the road for at least twelve years, but the vendor recommissioned and has been using it lightly ever since, primarily for fair-weather cruising, hence the mileage stands at only 66, 300 miles from new.
In terms of its condition, the original interior has lightly patinated leather, and the exterior remains highly presentable albeit with “some minor æsthetic repairs required,” though we note the hood seems to be in good condition. The vendor advises that the engine is running well, and the fact that the Jaguar has an MOT valid until October, 2026, indicates that it is ready for immediate enjoyment. A V5C is supplied.
