Some cars are rare. Others enter the legend. LOU 222 is part of this second category.
Presented by The A, this Aston Martin DB2/ 4 Sports Saloon is among the most documented and awarded copies of the model. Its history, its competition distinctions and its exceptional presentation make it much more than a collector's car: a reference piece.
In the early 1950s, competition between luxury sports car manufacturers was tough. David Brown, owner of the British brand since 1947, then felt the need to improve the performance of his sports car, the DB2.
The Aston Martin DB2/ 4 retains the 6-cylinder engine designed by Tadek Marek, inherited from the DB2, whose power now reaches 126 hp. This engine is distinguished by a hoarse and metallic sound, immediately identifiable. It combines exceptional maneuverability with rare comfort for a high-performance car. The DB2/ 4 easily exceeds 200 km/ h, positioning itself among the best performing sports cars of its time.
Also, with the launch of the DB2/ 4 "2+2" in October 1953, Aston Martin expanded the attractiveness of the DB2 by addressing a previously untapped but rapidly growing market: sports car enthusiasts with a family. Modifications to the rear of the chassis, as well as a reduction in fuel tank capacity from 19 to 17 gallons, have freed up enough space to integrate two occasional rear seats. In addition, the backs of these seats could be folded down, creating a loading surface that largely doubles the capacity for luggage. This space was accessible by a back door opening upwards, foreshadowing the now common concept of "tailgate". This transformation gives the Aston Martin DB2/ 4 an exceptional loading capacity, unmatched in a car that can, under optimal conditions, reach a speed of two miles per minute, "reported The Motor. Production of the first DB2/ 4 series, later called "Mark I", extended from October 1953 to October 1955, with chassis numbers ranging from "LML/ 501" to "LML/ 1065", totaling 565 copies.
Our truly remarkable copy is described as being in excellent condition. It benefits from carefully selected improvements, such as an electric cooling fan, a discreet electric power steering, an aluminum fuel tank and a dual exhaust system, the latter option being originally offered in the factory. This exceptional vehicle is presented with a V5C registration certificate as well as the historical documents mentioned above.
The body, originally designed by Mulliners Limited in Birmingham, as well as the engine, have been restored with rare precision and remarkable craftsmanship by Wren Classics.
This exceptional Aston Martin, in perfect condition, proudly sports the LOU 222 registration number and the LML/ 539 factory chassis number.
The LOU 222, an undisputed and recognized reference of the DB2 model worldwide, has shone in many selections of elegance, winning very important distinctions. A success confirmed by twenty years of uninterrupted success in international competitions.
In 2002, LOU 222 participated in the AMOC Spring Competition at Waddesdon Manor, where she was honored with the first prize in the Feltham category. Four complete double-sided pages detail each event she has taken part in over the past 22 years, with a multitude of details too many to be mentioned here. Highlights include five victories in the Feltham AMOC class and four high rankings in the AMOC Elite class. Time has not started the success of this car in competition, which again won the Feltham class at the 2016 AMOC fall competition, followed by another victory in 2017. And the story continues in 2005, where LOU222 was selected by Aston Martin to be presented in Italy to participate in the launch of the new V8 Vantage... The most recent event was the Bentley Driver's Centenario at Blenheim Palace, in September 2019.
This legendary Aston Martin is eligible for the Mille Miglia as well as for all the most prestigious future competitions.

Présentée par The A, cette Aston Martin DB2/ 4 Sports Saloon figure parmi les exemplaires les plus documentés et récompensés du modèle. Son historique, ses distinctions en concours et sa présentation exceptionnelle en font bien d’avantage qu’une automobile de collection : une pièce de référence.
Au début des années 1950, la concurrence entre les constructeurs de voitures de sport de prestige est rude. David Brown, propriétaire de la marque britannique depuis 1947, ressent alors le besoin d’améliorer les performances de sa sportive, la DB2.
L’Aston Martin DB2/ 4 conserve le moteur 6 cylindres conçu par Tadek Marek, hérité de la DB2, dont la puissance atteint désormais 126 ch. Ce moteur se distingue par une sonorité rauque et métallique, immédiatement identifiable. Elle allie une maniabilité exceptionnelle à un confort rare pour une voiture de haute performance. La DB2/ 4 dépasse aisément les 200 km/ h, se positionnant parmi les sportives les plus performantes de son époque.
Aussi, avec le lancement de la DB2/ 4 « 2+2 » en octobre 1953, Aston Martin a élargi l’attrait de la DB2 en s’adressant à un marché jusque-là inexploité mais en forte croissance : les passionnés de voitures de sport avec une famille. Des modifications à l’arrière du châssis, ainsi qu’une réduction de la capacité du réservoir de carburant de 19 à 17 gallons, ont libéré suffisamment d’espace pour intégrer deux sièges arrière occasionnels. De plus, les dossiers de ces sièges pouvaient être rabattus, créant une surface de chargement doublant largement la capacité pour les bagages. Cet espace était accessible par une porte arrière s’ouvrant vers le haut, préfigurant le concept aujourd’hui courant de « hayon ». Cette transformation confère à l’Aston Martin DB2/ 4 une capacité de chargement exceptionnelle, inégalée dans une voiture pouvant, dans des conditions optimales, atteindre une vitesse de deux miles par minute », rapportait The Motor. « La DB2/ 4 pouvant légitimement revendiquer le titre de voiture la plus rapide au monde capable de transporter deux personnes avec un mois de bagages. »

Notre exemplaire, véritablement remarquable, se décrit comme étant en excellent état. Il bénéficie d’améliorations soigneusement choisies, telles qu’un ventilateur de refroidissement électrique, une direction assistée électrique discrète, un réservoir de carburant en aluminium et un système à double échappement, cette dernière option étant proposée en usine à l’origine. Ce véhicule d’exception est présenté avec un certificat d’immatriculation V5C ainsi que les documents historiques mentionnés précédemment.
La carrosserie, initialement conçue par Mulliners Limited à Birmingham, ainsi que le moteur, ont été restaurés avec une rare précision et un savoir-faire remarquable par Wren Classics.
Cette Aston Martin d’exception, dans un état parfait, arbore fièrement le numéro d’immatriculation LOU 222 et le numéro de châssis d’usine LML/ 539.
La LOU 222, référence incontestée et reconnue du modèle DB2 à l’échelle mondiale, a brillé dans de nombreuses sélections d’élégance, remportant de très importantes distinctions. Une réussite confirmée par vingt années de succès ininterrompus en concours internationaux.
En 2002, LOU 222 a participé au concours de printemps AMOC à Waddesdon Manor, où elle a été honoré du premier prix dans la catégorie Feltham.
