Unveiled at the 2003 Los Angeles Auto Show, the Aston Martin DB AR1 stands among the most memorable results of the marque's long partnership with Zagato. Conceived specifically for American buyers and built upon the DB7 platform, the AR1, short for American Roadster 1, wears a larger front grille, widened rear fenders, and Zagato's signature double bubble roofline motif, its steeply raked windshield lending both a sleeker profile and improved aerodynamics.
As a true open roadster it forgoes a folding top altogether, relying instead on a minimalist tonneau cover to protect the cabin when parked. To sidestep the type approval hurdles that had complicated the coupe-bodied DB7 Zagato's path into the American market, Aston Martin built the AR1 on the DB7 Volante's convertible chassis.
