Description
1963 Aston Martin DB4 series V finished in Fiesta Red with Black hide interior in very well-maintained condition from both cosmetic and mechanical points of view. It was delivered when new to the then "Road Research Laboratory" in Harmondsworth, as recorded on the original build sheet. From the accompanying build sheet and the paperwork that comes with this car, it appears to have had an interesting journey. It has been difficult to ascertain just how long it was with the Road Research Laboratory and investigation into this continues. We are aware that the car spent some time in the States where it apparently belonged to a Danny Miller for at least 18 years and research also continues on this subject. Around the beginning of the 2000's it was being maintained by "Steel Wings" and it was purchased from them by the most recent owner 22 years ago in 2004. According to recent research with Tim Cottingham who is the Aston Martin archivist and the copy of the original build sheet, it is one of only 4 or 5 series V DB4's built without faired-in headlamps, making it very rare indeed. The body of the Series V is 9cm longer than the 4 previous series and has a slightly increased roof height, built to increase comfort for passengers in the rear of the car. Series V's are also the only DB4's to have been fitted with 15" rather than 16" wheels in order to keep the overall height the same as the earlier cars. Again, according to the build sheet, this Aston Martin left the factory with the standard 3670cc twin overhead camshaft aluminium engine with twin SU carburettors producing around 236 BHP at 5500 rpm. This is no longer the case as it appears that it now has around 4200cc and is being fed by triple Weber twin choke carburettors producing considerably more power. Also, in order to make full use of the additional power, the car is now fitted with a five-speed gearbox for high-speed touring at lower RPM. Having now driven this exciting motor car about 100 miles, I can confirm that it is a delight to drive and will put a smile on the face of any new owner. Well worth the asking price of £345, 000
