This was my first car, which I restored with my Dad when I was 17, in 1985. It's a 1970 13/ 60 original convertible in red. I drove it until about 1994 when I dismantled it; it's been in my garage ever since....
Back in the 1990s I bought all the parts needed to make an excellent job of the car's second restoration. So the lucky buyer of this car will have everything they need to complete a fantastic Herald 13/ 60 convertible, including:
1. Completely restored rolling chassis, with heavy duty outriggers. Just needs painting.
2. Engine that was reconditioned about 30, 000 miles ago, with unleaded cylinder head, at a cost of about £600.
3. Front bulkhead, with replacement good footwells ready to be welded in.
4. Rear convertible bodytub with wheelarch repair panels, inner and outer door sill repair panels, and spare wheel well panel ready to be welded in.
5. Two excellent doors, and the original rotten doors with all the gubbins still attached to transfer over.
6. A good convertible hood (I bought it new while the car was on the road)
7. Front seats that are as new - my wife restored them about 15 years ago using brand new covers, foam, etc. They really do look fabulous.
8. A brand new Newton Commercial moulded carpet set that I bought from Rimmer Bros some time ago. Now costing £230, I believe.
9. A good 13/ 60 bonnet top panel with brand new wing panels, wheelarch panels, D-plates, etc. Everything you need to weld a terrific bonnet.
10. A good Honeybourne Mouldings hard top, with interior light and flock interior. Now costing over £300 I think.
11. A collection of other brand new parts, including stainless steel exhaust system, alloy rocker cover, convertible door glass, door seals, number plates, body-chassis fixing kit, heater hoses, etc.
12. Everything else you need to complete the car, including good complete dashboard assembly, rear seats, full tonneau cover, hood cover, interior trim, valences, boot lid, wheels, all brightwork, sun visors, steering column and wheel, light clusters, wiring loom, bumpers (alloy vitesse ones, plus some old white rubber sections), pedals, windscreen, wheels, etc.
13. Loads of spares in addition to what the car requires. Too much to list, including a spare gearbox, rear differential, rear spring, wheels, front suspension turrets with wishbones springs and vertical links, boot lid, master cylinders, steering column and wheel, electrical switches, starter motors, heaters, original dynamo and control box (I converted the car to alternator), windscreen, a 12/ 50 bonnet, a saloon roof (that I meant to convert to a hard top before I bought the Honeybourne top), loads more brightwork, and much more besides. There are four pairs of rear light clusters, for instance....
To assemble a brilliant example of a restored 13/ 60 convertible, I honestly believe all that's required is welding consumables, paint, and time. Oh, and a new rubber mat for the boot.
If it helps, you could justify this purchase by imagining that for the new price of the carpet set, hard top, and stainless exhaust, all the rest of the car plus spares are thrown in free!
The buyer is responsible for transportation. Obviously a trailer (at least) will be required. I can help to load up.
