The Riley 9 was a middle class car which Riley launched in 1926 with the first model being the Riley 9 Monaco. We understand this Riley 9 to be carrying a ‘special’ bodywork with close similarities to the Brooklands Model with the chassis number indicating it was built as a Riley 9 Monaco Saloon.
The Riley 9 has a 4-cylinder inline OHV engine - the first top-driven engine in history - 1, 087 cubic millimetre displacement and 82 hp (60 kW). These classic cars were available as a tourer and with various other bodies. The Riley 9 was built between 1926 to 1938. The wheelbase was 30cm shorter than a tourer.
This Riley 9 was first registered on February, 20th 1937 in England. The old registration book is available. In the 1970´s it was converted to a 12/ 4 engine with 1, 500 cc engine capacity. After that the track of the Riley was lost in England until in 2001 he found his way to Germany in poor but drivable condition. Now came the restoration Engine and the Wilson pre-select gearbox were technically completely overhauled. The car was rebuilt completely - frame off restoration. The aluminium body was renewed by hand with great attention to detail - such as the time corresponding riveting. It was also painted in its original colour.
We believe the car has an expired FIVA Card and there are some stickers indicating it entered the Mille Miglia 1000 Mile rally.
