A collectable Mk5 Ford Escort Ghia in good condition. Only 6 left!
EQUIPMENT
Colour keyed bumpers, colour keyed remote door mirrors, front and rear overriders, black finish window surrounds, tailgate wash wipe, side window demisters, vanity mirror on passenger sun visor, cigar lighter, front door stowage bins, 3-speed heater fan, coin box, Ford radio/ cassette, trip recorder, tachometer, dash mounted digital clock, two spoke soft feel steering wheel. Factory options; Ford rubber mats, Ford mudflaps, central locking, sunroof, tinted glass.
EXTERIOR
Finished in the original colour of Cherry Red Metallic, the paintwork is in good condition. The trim sections, glass, lights and badges are in excellent order and supplying original dealer number plates and stickers remain fitted. There are marks and scratches on the paint that are consummate with age, but no nasty dings or dents. There is some surface rust above the rear bumper/ wing arch, but is easily treatable. A good example of the mk5, now very rare (there are less mk5s than mk4s!) unmolested and just as Ford intended.
INTERIOR
The original Chatsworth Grey velour upholstery, is generally in very good condition, bar some significant wear to the driver's seat bolster nearest the door. The bright colours to the seat fabric are free from fading and damage and the inner foam structures are firm and shapely. The anthracite headlining is unmarked, as are the door cards, and the carpeting is clean with only minimal wear. All the controls work correctly.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Fitted with Ford's 1. 4 Compound Value angle Hemispherical chamber (CVH) engine mated to a single venture weber carburettor, this car sprints along with 80bhp at 6000rpm giving a 0-60 of 9. 9 seconds and a top speed of 112mph. The unmolested engine bay is clean and displays clearly prominent factory plates and original stickers. The battery tray is solid and rust free, as are the bulk heads.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Five Ghia-only light cast alloy wheels are in average order and fitted with 185/ 60 R14 tyres showing good tread. The boot area houses the spare wheel alongside the factory supplied jack and brace, and the original parcel shelf is straight and uncut with correct rubber hangers. The servo assisted brakes with 9. 4” ventilated discs up front stop the car well. Obviously the mk5 is pre-ABS and PAS, but it drives well, having completed a 250 miles journey last week with no issues.
HISTORY FILE
Built at the Ford Saarlouis Plant, Germany in June 1992 and registered new on the 1st August 1992 on a 'K’ plate (first day of release), this mk5 Ghia was supplied new by Ford Main Dealers Bristol Street Motors (Southampton) Ltd. The one and only owner, Mr Raymond Buckle, traded in his older Escort to ensure that he had the latest shape and the latest registration. He then housed the car in his garage from 1992 to 2017, which is why the car remains in such good condition today. The original dealer branded document wallet houses all the handbooks, guides, guarantee cards and accessories brochure. Furthermore, the original bill of sale, thank you letter from Ford and original old-style V5 are present. This very rare mk5 Ghia will appeal to a serious collector or enthusiast wanting an unmolested example of an iconic and fast appreciating classic car that has played a huge part in the history of every day Fords.
