Here for sale we have a very nice, clean Lightweight - these are becoming exceedingly hard to find in good condition. Externally, this Lightweight enjoys original character, paintwork and period features -including front and rear bumperettes with original galvanising, correct front military headlights with lifting eyes, military bridging plate on the front grill and bonnet mounted spare. Correct profile 750 tyres are fitted, which give slightly longer gearing to aid cruising speed. A recent tailgate has been fitted, and the canvas is also 'as new' and looks a recent addition to the vehicle. The bodywork really is very straight for a Lightweight of this age, and this is what sets it apart from most original examples.
On the inside, being a more easy to maintain 12v system, there are three seats across the front, unlike the two in the 24v models. These systems are easier to maintain, and so more desirable. A standard seat set is fitted in the front, and nice features such as the original military fly screens survive. A heater is also fitted to keep the cab warm in the summer months. The rear is unfitted but could house bench seats upon request to make this a 7 seat vehicle for minimal cost.
Out on the road, this lightweight has original charm, and the petrol engine is whisper quiet. Whether driven or looked at, this Lightweight has a feeling of originality, and this she feels as she should on the tarmac.
In summary this is an increasingly desirable 12v RHD Lightweight, in original condition. With the ability to be stripped down, these make for an ideal summer machine without losing winter ability As far fewer were made than their Series 3 counterparts, they are becoming increasingly rare so it should prove a sound investment.
