Here for sale we have a very early (No 1110) Series 2 - at this age, Land Rover® was still fitting the petrol 2 litre engine fro the series 1, and amazingly, this engine has survived in this particular vehicle - now fairly rare. Further to that, it is the sweetest 2L engine you might care to come across!
As can be seen from the photos, this early Series 2 (not 2a) is presented in lovely order. On the inside, there are 3 front seats and it's nice to see the working heater still fitted. Other than that, the interior is fairly unmolested and original.... complete with twin wipers and period steering wheel. Deluxe mats are fitted throughout, with the rear currently left as is - rear bench seats could be fitted if required.
Externally, the bodywork is in good order. The paint finish is much better than one would tend to see on a vehicle of this age - and it's a rarer colour too!. There are lots of nice touches - correct period mud flaps, tow bar including one to the front bumper, wing mounted mirrors, bonnet mounted spare , a recent set of military style tyres to give better cruising and looks, front towing eyes, etc etc. The canvas is recent and will look tighter once it gets wet..... but all in all we think it looks really good.
Early Series 2s such as this tend to command a premium, due to being early, and not requiring either tax or test - plus the historic interest in early 2s makes them more desirable.... if you add the correct, period, Series 1 engine into the mix, then this lovely ragtop 2 should make a sound investment.
If you are looking for an early Series 2 in soft top mode (that won't need an MOT every year or paying for tax) then this little cracker has to be worth a look. They are ideal for foreign holiday homes, as they don't need to come back to the UK every year for an MOT !
