Here we have for sale a recently rebuilt lightweight, onto a new, galvanised chassis. This vehicle was released from forces in 1998 so benefits from 18 previous years of military servicing over its civilian counterparts.
On the outside, there are lots of "goodies" one would like to see on a lightweight - military headlights and lenses, lifting eyes, badging, vintage number plates, bridging plate, front and rear bumperettes, split tailgate, bonnet mounted spare, wing top ATUs, military tyres and nato hitches front and rear. The paintwork is just how we like to see on a military vehicle, with a matt finish - they don't look right shiny!. The canvas is an FFR type - rare to find and very in keeping with the military appearance.
To the interior, there are three front seats, plus a pair of rear benches for extra passengers. There's a handy seat belt bar too, which allows for inertia reel belts to be fitted. The remainder of the interior is fairly "stock" which is also nice to see. Custom mats are fitted front and rear, plus a fire extinguisher in the front.
Other recent parts fitted include a full stainless steel exhaust system, a battery, the recent hood, recent brake master cylinder and tyres. The under bonnet experience is also quite pleasing, showing the benefits gained from a recent rebuild - lots of the ancilliaries look recent too, and it's a clean and tidy space.
As one would expect, this old girl sounds lovely and drives just as a lightweight should.
If you are looking for a "good" lightweight to keep for a long time then this is worth considering. And at less than half the price of a "new" rebuild we think it represents good value for money.
