Description

I offer you a rare 1951 Bristol 401 Series 3 with 31596km on the clock. 618 examples were made between October 1948 and May 1953. The car is almost complete and in need of restoration, the only thing missing being the carburettors (we can't find them?). It is fitted with the famous BMW 6cyl 2L engine that was also found in the BMW 328 roadster with its famous sporting record (a 328 still won Le Mans Classic 2023) but also in the 327, 327/ 28 coupés and cabriolets and the large 335 saloons of the 30s and 40s, then the EMW 327 and 335 and a number of Bristols built up to the end of the 50s.
This is an incredibly robust and corrosion free survivor out of the barn and is an interesting opportunity for someone wishing to take on a restoration from scratch. The condition can be seen from the photos, a full restoration is required. This means that the bodywork, interior, running gear and mechanics need to be restored. The car has been in the family for nearly 30 years and was previously owned by a Parisian BMW dealer who had a large collection of BMWs from 1936 to 1990. It has not been driven for some 40 years. Built by hand, the Bristol 401 can be repaired by anyone with reasonably simple skills. This is a very important point because the task seems complicated, but in fact, with a little care and thought, there is nothing difficult about the project. The car was registered in 1951. It was exported to France, to the Parisian dealer André Chardonnet. It is an original right-hand-drive car. If you buy a Bristol, it is advisable to join the Bristol Owners Club and the Bristol Owners and Drivers Association.
