Model history:
In October 1952, at Earls Court, Donald Healey unveiled his latest prototype, fitted with a 4-cylinder Austin A90 engine. This car appealed to BMC, who then decided to put it into production. Thus, the Austin Healey 100 was officially launched in May 1953.
Donald Healey named it “100” to emphasise its ability to reach 100 mph (160 km/ h). The Austin Healey 100 BN1, for its part, is equipped with a 2, 660 cc four‑cylinder engine developing 90 bhp, with a 3‑speed gearbox. During its test of the BN1 model in 1953, the British magazine The Motor recorded impressive performances: a top speed of 171 km/ h, 0‑60 mph in 11. 2 seconds, and a fuel consumption of 12. 6 L/ 100 km.
Produced only between 1952 and 1955, the Austin Healey 100/ 4 BN1 thus allowed participation in major races and rallies such as the Tour Auto and the Mille Miglia.
Body:
The bodywork is in excellent condition, with a perfectly aligned chassis and no signs of corrosion. The doors close precisely, and the open-pore aluminium bonnet integrates perfectly with the body.
Trim:
The seats, door panels and armrest have been fully restored. The carpets are immaculate, and we have added a bespoke finish in the boot.
Engine:
The engine has been rebuilt with a Le Mans kit including carburettors, camshaft and sport cylinder head. The mechanics are currently in a run‑in phase.
Gearbox:
The original three‑speed gearbox has been completely overhauled, with smooth and precise gear changes.
Running gear:
The rear suspension is stable, with very good road holding. The chassis behaviour is excellent. There is no play or noise detected. The suspension is perfect. The stainless steel spoke wheels are new.
Brakes:
Equipped with front discs for optimal braking.
Options:
It features a vented M-type bonnet and a leather strap. An alternator improves electrical output.
