For sale a rare opportunity to purchase a fully restored, delivery mileage, very early and very desirable Austin Healey 100 built to no-expense spared show standards (not for resale) with around 1, 000 hours of craftsmanship lavished. Specification of this car is now far above even a factory 100M mechanically, and significantly lighter with a all-aluminium body, the early 100S type rear axle and with materials far higher quality and more luxurious than was fitted originally. Built on 30th April 1954 this Healey is a original right hand drive BN1 model delivered new to H. E. Griffin Motors Limited of Haywards Heath. Now finished in Ferrari Grigio Ferro Metallic with Matador Red leather seating, Chrome 72-spoke centre lock wire wheels and highly polished cockpit trims.
286 UYF arrived at Rawles Motorsport in July 2023 with the bodywork largely complete and some 300-400 hours already spent. We finished the all-aluminium bodywork, made some quality improvements to the general body gaps and shape before preparing the car for paint. The paintwork was carried out to the highest standards at 340 hours total. We fully trimmed the car with leather seating in Matador Red with Maroon wool carpets and a matching Red roof and tonneau.
Mechanically restoration has been just as uncompromising, the engine was stripped down, cleaned, fully machined and rebuilt including: 89MM 100M pistons, aluminium fast road head port and polished, roller rockers, DWR1 100M type camshaft, vernier timing gear, polished and balanced crankshaft, 100M carburettors, CNC gas flowed 100M inlet manifolds, 100M competition tubular exhaust manifold, 100M side exit exhaust, electronic distributor. This is far in excess of the usual 100M specification and estimated at around 130-140BHP. Power is delivered to the wheels through a later BN2 4 speed overdrive gearbox.
To drive this Healey is superb as you would expect, the engine torquey and punchy, the gearbox smooth and quiet. As the chassis is very well rebuilt the car feels very taught and there are no rattles.
