Description

Model History: Introduced in 1959, the Porsche 356B (type T5, then T6 from 1962) represented a major evolution of the first production Porsche. Visually, the 356B was distinguished by higher, reinforced bumpers, raised headlamps and more assertive lines. In 1962, with the switch to T6 bodywork, it received a squarer front bonnet. It also got a bonnet grille with double air intakes and a slightly redesigned engine bay. Inside, the car's ergonomics have improved and the finish has been significantly enhanced. Mechanically, it retains the famous air-cooled flat-4 engine, available in a range of power ratings. The most powerful versions go up to 75 bhp (Super 90). The 356B also offers improved handling, braking and comfort. In competition, the 356B continued the tradition of reliability and performance begun by its predecessors. It excelled in rallies, endurance races, and even in certain events in the World Sports Car Championship. Numerous private drivers, as well as semi-official teams, took the 356B to the podium thanks to its exceptional robustness and handling. Between 1959 and 1963, production of the 356B reached a total of 30, 963 examples, distributed as follows: - 23, 521 coupés - 7, 442 cabriolets - 694 roadsters - 4 hardtop convertibles The 356B embodies a perfect synthesis between the authenticity of the original model and the evolution towards a more accomplished sports car. It occupies a central place in the history of Porsche, both as a model of transition and as a machine of pleasure and performance. History of this Porsche 356 B: Fitted with the new T6 bodywork, this Porsche 356B was first registered in 1962. We are currently tracing the full history of this Porsche 356B. According to our records, it was imported into France in 1988, changed ownership in 1998 and moved to the Pyrenees. In 2001, it became a Parisian and began to be serviced regularly in our workshops. We have sold the car on two occasions, first in April 2007 and then again in October 2008, and since then it has remained in the hands of the same owner, bearing witness to the care and attention it has received to this day. Bodywork: The bodywork underwent a complete restoration in 2020, including a complete overhaul of the underpinnings. On this occasion, the body was completely dismantled and stripped bare, then repainted in its previous silver-grey colour. Upholstery: The interior, entirely restored in black leather, has remained in excellent condition and has since been carefully maintained. The soft top, restored in our workshops, is superb, as are the carpets and its rubber mat, which retain an impeccable presentation. It also benefits from sought-after period equipment, such as sun visors, an original steering wheel in perfect condition and its tripmaster, perfectly integrated into the package for taking part in historic rallies. Engine and Gearbox: The engine and gearbox were fully restored in 2019 by a recognised independent Porsche specialist. Since this intervention, the vehicle has continued to be regularly maintained in our workshops. It is fitted with a sports exhaust system, with tailpipes in the rear bananas, respecting the original configuration while offering a more expressive sound. Running gear: The front and rear axles are stable, very good road holding. Chassis handling is good. There is no play or noise. The suspension has been reworked. Braking is perfect and in a straight line. Price: €160, 000
