Description

This Ferrari 250 GTE was delivered new in France to Mr Pierre Louis-Dreyfus, a famous Parisian motor racing driver. We are continuing our research into its history. It is said to have been entrusted to a renowned French couturier.

This car has been in the Netherlands since 1996 and has featured in two major Ferrari collections since. It has been repainted and refreshed, but the interior, with its original black leather, remains irreplaceable.

Restored after two years of maintenance with a Dutch specialist, for a total of €160, 000, including a complete engine rebuild. After a full 1, 000 km run-in, it is ready to welcome a new owner.

The price is €325, 000.

Model history

Ferrari enjoyed sensational success in the 1950s with the 250 series, road and racing cars. The 250 series, the most successful of the marque’s early years, included many variants and was characterised by the use of the 3-litre V12 designed by Lampredi or Colombo.

At launch, the Ferrari 250 GT 2+2 was the only Ferrari designed to carry more than two passengers (some 1950s Ferraris of the 212 family built by Ghia could carry more than two passengers, but those models are rare). This filled a long-standing gap in Ferrari’s production and the 2+2 proved an extremely popular model, capable of high performance and luxurious long-distance travel.

The classic V12 engine was equipped with a single overhead cam per bank, operating the valves overhead via roller tappets. Displacement was 2, 953 cm³ and, with a compression ratio of 8. 8:1, it developed 240 hp at 7, 000 rpm. The GTE is equipped with an electric five-speed overdrive for comfortable high-speed cruising.
