Description
The BMW E9 Coupé Under the famous slogan "Freude ** Fahren" (the pleasure of driving), BMW promoted the CS coupes, elegant and with perfect lines. They are without a doubt among the milestones of the BMW house - notably because of their fantastic turbo inline-six engine and the silky smoothness and their very elegant design. This engine, later called M30, would become one of the pillars of BMW’s good reputation as an engine manufacturer and was kept in the range until 1996, of course with a wide range of modifications. The block is grey cast iron, the cylinder head is aluminium alloy, the camshaft is driven by a chain; by varying the bore you could obtain displacements from 2. 5 to 3. 5 litres. The bodies were built between 1968 and 1975 as subcontracting by BMW at Karmann, then transported to Munich to be completed. The design is attributed to Wilhelm Hofmeister – the famous Hofmeister kink on the C-pillar. But we already see this stabiliser crease in the BMW 3200 CS, designed by Bertone. In any case, Italian styling elements are undeniably present on the BMW E9, which greatly contributes to the lightness and finesse of its appearance. The early models were the 2800 CS with 170 hp, followed by the 3. 0 CS (180 hp) in carburetted form. In autumn 1971, the first fuel-injected model variant, the 3. 0 CSI (200 hp), was added. The CSL models became legendary and achieved great success, especially in motor racing, the L signifying "light construction". Depending on the version delivered, the CSLs were equipped with aluminium doors and bonnets, lighter sport seats, thinner sheets, etc., which allowed a total weight reduction of 150 kg. The CSL is powered by the same engine as the CSI. Thanks to substantial light construction, agility and liveliness were greatly increased and the CSL was thus almost 1 second faster than its more comfortable sibling in the 0 to 100 km/ h sprint. The very latest CSL coupes also received a power upgrade from BMW, bringing them to 206 hp. The Scuderia Sportiva Colonia paid particular attention to these technically advanced E9 coupes. The ravishing shape, the excellent chassis, the very good brakes and the powerful engine were - at the start of the 70s - the benchmark in the field. Inside, it pampers its owner with luxurious materials, the CSL seats are very sporty with strong lateral support and the individually inset round VDO instruments are still a delight to the eye today. An automotive tester wrote so aptly that if James Bond had been German, he would have chosen a BMW E9 as a service car. Condition of the BMW 3. 0 CSL -SSC-583 offered here This CSL, looking like a Batmobile (but originally a CSL), is a fascinating optical phenomenon. The paint on this CSL is not perfect, but the condition of the bodywork, especially the panels, is very, very good and rust-free. This coupe is flawless at all critical points. The matching engine has excellent compression values and powers up smoothly. The 5-speed sport ZF gearbox was added afterwards and is in excellent condition. The suspension and braking system have been renewed recently. In addition to the Batmobile rear spoiler and roof, the new 5-speed sport gearbox, the wiring for the additional front lights, the variable-intensity reading lamps, the oil pressure and oil temperature gauges, the roll cage, the 4-point Sparco belts, the special sport tachometer, the dome bar, the fire extinguisher and the tripmaster device, were installed in addition for a...
