Its elegant, aerodynamic design is reminiscent of a fighter plane. Under the bonnet, there's always a high-performance engine to underline this feeling. This combination is also a Jaguar hallmark, making them rightly sought after by classic car enthusiasts. Jaguar's futuristic design is attributed to Malcolm Sayer, an aeronautical engineer who was inspired by fighter planes. He was very successful in transforming this inspiration into a veritable icon in the automotive world. The end result is distinctive: a long bonnet, a short rear section and a long, wide wheelbase in monocoque steel that exudes class, prestige and power. Enzo Ferrari described the XK-E as "the most beautiful car ever made". As well as the E-Type's aesthetic perfection, it's also worth mentioning its performance. Initially, the British flagship was fitted with a flat floor and a 3. 8-litre in-line 6-cylinder engine, fed by no less than three SU carburettors, together producing 265bhp. In 1964, the 1 Series underwent a volume increase, with the engine growing to 4. 2 litres. When the 3 Series was launched in 1971, Jaguar boasted a 5. 3-litre V12 producing 272 bhp, attracting even more interest from rival carmakers. It reached speeds of up to 241 km/ h, making it one of the fastest cars on the market at the time. The car also incorporated revolutionary technology, including disc brakes on all four wheels. A more than remarkable gadget that enhanced safety and reliability. The gearbox has also been carefully thought out: to improve handling, the car is equipped with a four-speed manual gearbox, with a classic wooden gear lever, forming a whole with the equally classic mahogany steering wheel. In short, it has to be said that the E-Type has remained a style icon over the decades. You'll no doubt notice that this roadster is adorned with numerous medals, and they don't seem to be rusting any time soon. This has led to admiration from enthusiasts all over the world and a strong demand for this car. Series 1: The E-Type Series 1 was launched as a GT coupe and convertible, with the 3. 8-litre engine from the XK150S. This happened in March 1961, initially in Europe, and a month later in the US under the name XK-E. The E-Type was immediately described as 'revolutionary', which was certainly in keeping with the times. To begin with, the sports car was less expensive than its competitors. The first 500 models were sold with a flat floor, which improved the car's aerodynamics. What's more, its design and specification were unprecedented and revolutionary. The car was fitted as standard with three SU carburettors feeding a 3. 8-litre in-line 6-cylinder engine producing 265 bhp. In 1964, the engine capacity was increased to 4. 2 litres, the suspension became independent and disc brakes were fitted to all four wheels. The boot badge, also added at the 1964 overhaul, visually distinguished the 3. 8-litre from the 4. 2-litre, and the seats were also different and considerably more comfortable than those of the 3. 8-litre. From 1966, a 2+2 coupé version was available, with a lengthened wheelbase and possibly an automatic gearbox. - Single boot badge (4. 2 litres) - 3 SU carburettors - Aeronautical design - Independent suspension - Four-wheel disc brakes Technical specifications Body - Length (cm): 468 - Width (cm): 166 - Height (cm): 127 - Wheelbase (cm): 268 - Weight (kg): 1220 Mechanical - Engine: 6-cylinder in-line 3781 cm3, front - Valves: 12 - Fuel system: 3 SU HD8 carburettors - Gearbox: manual, 4 speeds - Transmission: to rear wheels - Left-hand steering - Maximum power: 269 bhp (198 kW) at 5500 rpm - Maximum torque: 353 Nm at 4000 rpm - Maximum speed: 236 km/ h Our long-standing expertise is available to those wishing to sell or buy a car with confidence and quality advice.
