Description

The 1961 Jaguar E-Type revolutionised automotive design and performance, setting new standards for speed and beauty with its race-inspired aerodynamic styling, influenced by Jaguar's Le Mans-winning D-Type.

The lightweight monocoque chassis, combined with independent rear suspension and brakes all round, gives the E-Type exceptional handling and ride comfort, making it as exciting to drive as it is to look at.

Under the bonnet lay a DOHC 3. 8‑litre inline-six, developing 265 bhp and 353 lb ft of torque. Paired with a four-speed manual gearbox, the E-Type could sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 6. 9 seconds, with a top speed of 150 mph (241 km/ h), a performance that was scandalous for the era.

According to factory records published by the Jaguar Heritage Trust, this 1961 E-Type OTS Roadster with a “flat-floor” specification was built in November 1961 but not sold until December 1962.

The long wait paid off as the E-Type found its way to the dealer and German driver Mr Peter Lindner, better known as the “King of the Ring”. Lindner owned and raced one of Jaguar’s 12 lightweight E-Types, the “Lindner Nocker Low Drag”.

But the story doesn’t end there. The buyer of this Jaguar E-Type roadster was a certain L. P. Casner or “Lucky Casner”, founder of the Camoradi racing team.

More famously still, Lucky Casner ordered a Maserati Tipo 61 Birdcage for the Camoradi team to compete at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1960. In August 1960, the Camoradi team won the Nürburgring 1000 km with Dan Gurney and Stirling Moss at the wheel.

The following year, Lucky Casner himself won the Nürburgring 1000 in the Maserati Birdcage, this time alongside Masten Gregory at the wheel.

As you might expect, Casner did not use his 1961 E-Type roadster for shopping or Sunday cruising. He would have explored the full potential of the 3. 8 DOHC engine at every opportunity.

Indeed, the original engine did not stand the test of time and was replaced some time ago, probably due to a blown engine.

In 2000, the Jaguar was sold from Germany to Denmark as part of a complete restoration project.

A full nut-and-bolt restoration followed and lasted until 2011. A multitude of receipts and some photographs from the restoration are on file.

Since its restoration, the Jaguar E-Type has travelled 24, 900 kilometres without issue and remains visually near‑new. Mechanically the Jaguar is on song. The engine was rebuilt by the highly respected Jaguar engine specialist VSE, and the 3. 8‑litre motor fires up instantly and settles at idle without delay. Power is immediate and available without hesitation.

With its perfect blend of grace and rhythm, the 1961 E-Type Roadster has become an icon, securing its place among the greatest sports cars of all time.

The Jaguar E-Type is registered with Danish vehicle documents (EU registration) and is ready to be used by its next owner.
