Description
History of the BMW 3. 0 CSi Restomod up for sale - SSC-667
This BMW 3. 0 CSi was built in January 1973 and first registered in Bavaria a month later. From the factory, it was fitted with the highly sought-after sliding steel sunroof. After being taken off the road permanently in 1993, this BMW joined the collections of Scuderia Sportiva Colonia in 2019. From 2022 onwards, it underwent a full, no-compromise “nuts and bolts” restoration. The coupé was completely dismantled, then rebuilt with meticulous care—mechanically and cosmetically—at a very high level of skilled, craft-level workmanship. The restoration was completed in 2024.
The result goes far beyond what you’d get from simply restoring a BMW E9 to an exceptional standard: SSC-667 combines the timeless elegance of the great BMW grand coupé with noticeably increased performance, a modernised on-road feel, and a particularly coherent selection of technical upgrades.
The bodywork is finished in Anthracite Metallic, colour code 055. Paired with a fully restored interior retrimmed in Tan leather, it creates a colour combination that’s both especially stylish and distinctive. The warm tone of the leather provides a refined contrast against the depth of the anthracite paint and underlines this BMW 3. 0 CSi’s Grand Tourer character. Tinted glass, chromed details, and the classic 16-inch Alpina-style wheels complete its commanding, distinguished stance.
The mechanical package is built around a strong M90 six-cylinder in-line engine developing around 240 bhp. Matched to a fully programmable engine management system, it wins you over with an immediate throttle response, impressive torque, and a full-bodied, characterful sound. It gives this elegant coupé performances that remain thrilling today—without ever losing the original nature of the BMW E9.
The Getrag five-speed gearbox with an overdriven fifth gear significantly improves the car’s long-distance road manners. At higher speeds, the BMW is quieter, more relaxed and more composed, yet it remains a genuine driver’s car from the early 1970s.
The suspension and braking system have also been adapted to cope with the engine’s increased performance. A Bilstein suspension setup—combined with a subtle lowering of roughly 30 millimetres—ensures more precise steering and a noticeably improved road-holding feel. The uprated braking system inspires confidence and provides a reassuring sense of security in all circumstances. A front anti-roll/ anti-flex bar further increases rigidity at the front of the vehicle.
The end result is a particularly successful balance of comfort, precision and sporting character—exactly what you’d expect from a modern Grand Tourer dressed in classic, timeless bodywork.

Conclusion
For many years, Scuderia Sportiva Colonia has devoted particular attention and passion to the technically sophisticated BMW E9-series grand coupés. Their captivating lines, refined road manners, and strong straight-six engines have made them—right from the early 1970s—some of the most fascinating European Grand Tourers in their class.
With SSC-667, this exceptional starting point has been carefully and respectfully enhanced. Optimised suspension, uprated brakes and a more capable M90 engine improve dynamics, safety and long-distance comfort and enjoyment—without compromising the BMW E9’s unique character. BMW’s famous slogan, “The Ultimate Driving Pleasure”, takes on its full meaning in the E9—presented in a particularly elegant and distinctive way.
The cabin impresses with its high-quality materials, comfortable seats, excellent visibility and round VDO instruments individually framed in chrome. The VDO Classic auxiliary instruments, surrounded by chromed bezels, blend harmoniously with the historic look of the dashboard.
Or, with a touch of humour: if James Bond had been German, his company car would probably have been a BMW…
