Petrol 2286cc. MOT & Tax Exempt. Galvanised Chassis. Early Series 2 (not 2a) – only the 509th Series 2 (chassis number the details below). Recent cosmetic refurbishment including new Canvas. Period 600 wheels and tyres. Towbar and Electrics. Rear Mudflaps.
We are delighted to present for sale this rare, early Series 2 which has been rebuilt onto a galvanised chassis. The Series 2 (not the Series 2a) was built between 1958-1961, and there are a few subtle differences – the vent openers are the most telling aspect!
As the photos show, the exterior of this vehicle does not disappoint – a recent cosmetic refurbishment gives it a good, gloss finish and detail that one might not normally see. This complements the rebuild onto the Galvanised Chassis, so not only is it a solid vehicle, but it looks the part too. The vehicle sits on a set of period 600 tyres, just as it would’ve left the factory… this helps keep the period look which includes the bonnet mounted spare, wing-top mounted mirrors, vintage plates, rear mudflaps and rear grabhandles. A towbar and electrics has been fitted to allow towing if required.
The interior of this vehicle is largely standard, with the notable addition of a passenger wiper (an option in these days!) and a heater, with front demist – handy for winter days, and keeping the windscreen clear. There are three front deluxe seats, with the outers being the ‘highback’ type with integrated headrest for additional comfort. Deluxe Matting is fitted to the floors. If you look closely, you’ll see those unusual ‘twist type’ vent openers above the dash – a key difference between the Series 2 & 2a. The rear is unfitted and houses a load mat – this could also house bench seats on request for £295 to make a seven seater vehicle.
Out on the road, this vehicle drives just as it should – it feels just like a vehicle should that has been previously rebuilt – well sorted and ‘tight’ to drive. It provides a superb period driving experience, with the original size tyres giving very brisk acceleration to speed, and give a very ‘light footprint’ ideal for snow and mud.
In summary, if you are looking for a Land Rover® Series 2 which has been rebuilt, in period petrol format, then this could be for you. With the vehicle looking as good on top as underneath, this should prove to be a sound investment, whilst standing the test of time, thanks to the Galvanised Chassis rebuild. With MOT & Tax Exemption and Classic Insurance, it should prove cheap to run as well!
