This 1961 MGA roadster is a well known Group 1 vintage race car that has had a successful history since 1991. Acquired by the current owner in April 2019, the car is finished in white with a silver stripe across the hood. Equipment includes a Prather-built full race 1622cc MGA engine with approximately 7-8 hours since a full rebuild, a Comp-Tune cylinder head, and an MGA close ratio 4-speed transmission with fresh (new) C/ R Helical gears (2. 45, 1. 62, 1. 268, 1. 00), new Tilton pedal box, and a new Clutch Pac with release bearing (installed Spring 2019.) Other features include MGA/ MGB hybrid rear axles with captive bearings, 4. 33 differential with Quaife LSD and a 3. 90 spare. This MGA was last raced at the VIR Heacock Gold Cup in Sept 2020, and is now being offered on a bill of sale in Matthews, NC. HSR, SVRA, and VRG log books, a custom MG car cover, a spare set of Panasport wheels, a new 12V battery with charger adapter, and three tubs of usable spare parts. An open South Carolina title is available.
The car has had recent class wins at Watkins Glen (2. 28 best lap), Road Atlanta(1. 51 best lap), Roebling Road (1. 26 best lap), Mid-Ohio (1. 50 best lap), and Put in Bay. The body is finished in off-white with a silver stripe across the bonnet. The bumpers have been removed, however much of the external trim is still present including the original grill, vent openings, headlight rings and headlights, and LED brake/ rain tail lights. Features include a plexiglass windscreen, front dash and fender-mounted side-view mirror , and two sets of 15 X 6 Panasport alloy wheels. The car meets all 1972 SCCA specifications and Vintage Group 1 FP specifications required by regulations and is ready to race without any additional work or upgrades.
The 15 x 6 silver-painted Panasport wheels are wrapped in Hoosier Speedster tires, 185 x 65 x 15 (front) and 205 X 60 X 15 ( rear ). Stopping power is provided by MGB disc brakes in front and drum units in the rear. An additional set of Panasport-style wheels, fitted with older Hoosier Speedster tires, is included in the sale.
• The left-hand drive cabin has been fitted with aluminum panels on the floors and doors. A single Kirkey 55V racing seat on Sparco seat tracks is mounted in front of a removable Momo three-spoke steering wheel. The dash is factory original to the car and has an oversize tachometer, a large oil temperature gauge, an oil pressure gauge with low pressure warning light, an Auto-Meter air/ fuel mixture indicator, and a shift light mounted in front of the driver. Total mileage is unknown. Additional equipment includes a Halon fire suppression system, Racequip 5-point cam lock seat belts (2022), an automatic Accusump and a multi-point padded roll cage with side-impact bars.
MGA 1622cc, three main bearing engine was originally built by Prather Racing in 2011. The engine was heavily modified with:

• Wet sump w/ external oil pump , modified oil pan w/ screen baffles

The engine dyno sheet of 02/ 28/ 2011 shows an output of 158 HP @ 6800 RPM @ A/ F 13. 9. The previous owner stated that the engine was refreshed in 2017. The engine has only been used in four events since the refresh, which included new main bearings, new cam and rod bearings as well as a valve job. The SU carburetors were replaced with a single Weber 45 DCOE with intake manifold/ linkage. Other upgrades included a Holley fuel pressure regulator and new gear reduction starter motor
The latest upgrades were performed in 2020, including rebuilt front calipers, rebuilt front shocks, new rear sway bar, MSD ignition and shift light, rain brake lights, Carbo Tech AX 6 front brake pads, Accusump pressure control valve, alignment and corner weighted, new aluminum bonnet, grill & body stripe/ number. Front bonnet and fenders have been repainted to remedy paint chips sustained from track debris.
