Hi there,
For sale is my Tartan Red 1967 MGB GT MK1, Manual, chrome bumper with overdrive.
Bought the car last August from an elderly chap that lived next to my aunt who had the car for around 4 years which was always dry stored in his garage and took to the shops on nice days.
Throughout the winter the car was also dry stored in my dads workshop.
Sad to be writing the advert but the funds are needed as I want to get back into motorsport.
Engine:
The engine is really strong throughout the whole rev range and have never had any major issue with it. Still uses the original unleaded head which requires use of lead additive when filling up.
In my ownership at the beginning of the year I purchased a new refurb set of carburettors from Birmingham Carburettors, gave the car a full service including coolant, engine, gearbox, diff oil change, new spark plugs, air filters and a tune.
Also added is a aftermarket radiator fan which is operated by a switch in the cabin.
Car has been converted to a single 12v battery which is located in the engine bay.
Transmission:
Gearbox works perfectly no crunching, 4 speed manual with working overdrive in 3rd and 4th gears great for duel carriage ways ect…
Suspension:
At the start of the year the front shock absorbers have been serviced and one was completely replaced.
The rear suspension has been upgraded by one of its previous owner and is running a set of Spax rear shock absorbers.
During the service all the grease nipples were filled.
Exterior:
Exterior of the car has been repainted in 1994 in its original colour Tartan Red which look amazing especially in the light. There are a few chips of the paint on the bonnet where it meets the body, but overall its good condition.
Interior:
Original MK1 metal dash which has a few patina/ roughness as it does with age but goes well with the age and character of the car.
Overdrive switch has been relocated under the 2 gauges on the right side of the steering wheel. (I believe originally the switch is on the dash). the original Smiths oil/ coolant gauge has been replaced with a separate oil and coolant gauges which are Smiths own dials. Oil pressure and coolant temps are perfectly operating.
Again in previous ownership the car has been converted to electronic ignition, I believe because of this the rev counter has not been converted and currently this does not work.
Original seats with black leather and red piping.
Bad bits:
As shown in the pictures the engine bay could do with a new coat of paint.
The original centre console is missing and currently I have a homemade leather blanking plate.
One of the coolant hoses has a slight weep at the joints which can be seen if i specifically point it out, I do have a new complete front hose set to go with the car. This doesn’t effect the coolant level but the weeping is visually obvious.
The passenger window doesn’t go all the way down, more 2/ 3rds the way down this is due to the mechanism rail being bent.
Has a very small oil leak which can be seen on the driveway as there is a small stain patch, but this hardly effects the level of oil in the car, in all honesty what classic car doesn’t leak a small amount of oil.
Drivers seat belt has been replaced with a 3 point harness.
There is a bit of rust on the drivers sill where the metal sheets have detached, which I have shown in the image. The passenger side is fine.
The car has a big folder full of previous invoices and in September 1994 the car went for a restoration with a full respray and engine/ gearbox rebuild.
In the history folder there is a page of text printed from the Ebay advert when the car was sold in May 2006 where it had a “underwriting certificate valuing the vehicle for £5, 000 which has been accepted by our insurance company Footman James” Unfortunately after contacting Footman James to query about this, due to data protection laws they cannot look back at their records and confirm any information about this.
Also as recently of July 2016 it even passed a MOT!
Sad to see the car go it gets lots of attention during car events, driving around and even at petrol stations, but need to fund my way back into motorsport.
It’s a very honest usable car and would be great as a weekend toy or even a daily driver if you really wanted to.
