Description

RHD 1968 Porsche 911T running a 2. 7S high compression engine (197bhp) mounted to a 901 dog leg gearbox and weighing in sub 900kg’s (870kg’s estimate). Resulting in a very lively and entertaining early 911.

Originally an Australian RHD 911 T from 1968, this is a very early standard wheel base car which came from the factory in Sand Beige with black leatherette interior.

I purchased the car in 2014 requiring a full restoration. At the time it was a forward dated evocation of a 1973 RS, with a very rotten floor pan, and in need of significant work. I dry stored the car for a couple of years, and in 2016 set to work with Zuffenhaus Porsche to strip and rebuild the car using a local, highly regarded, classic body restoration specialist to complete a full ground up restoration to my specification.

The panels where specialist made by friends in the Porsche community in the Netherlands including;

Kevlar lined 911 R doors
Kevlar lined deck lid
kevlar lined bonnet
kevlar lined large capacity light weigh centre fill fuel tank
lightweight Fibre glass RS front wings
911 S front bumper

Porsche UK supplied a brand new complete floor pan, resulting in the whole car being stripped to bare metal under sealed and then Finished in 3AT Pastell Blau Weiss 49B. Producing a stunningly individual and subtle off-white hue.

Once the body was finished we set about rebuilding the car using as much of the original donor car as we could. As supplied to me the car came with a 2. 7S engine from 1974 mounted to its original dog leg 901 5 speed gear box. The engine was pressure checked and rebuilt (recent compression test showing 140 - 150 on each barrel), I have been advised that the engine is a factory High compression engine with hotter cams and pistons, which was in turn rebuilt during the strip down along with the 40mm webber carburettors being shipped to Germany to be fully refurbished. Once back and fitted with new SSI manifolds and literal straight pipes (supplied by Machine Revival, France) from the manifolds the engine was rolling road tuned and Dyno’d at 197bhp.

The lightweight 3 piece Compomotive Fuchs wheel’s where refurbished with anthracite centres to offset the body colour and matching the custom Porsche script supplied by Pavel at Carbone, Poland. New TOYO Proxes TR1 tyres wrapped the 15” wheels and 3. 2 Carrera braking system installed, Amber headlights lenses again supplied by Carbone, Poland and 911R deck lid hinges and rear windscreen holder finish off the appearance of a subtly modified Porsche 911. (Note all windows are glass)

Inside the car Is a removable half cage painted in matt black, with charcoal light weight carpets covering a the fully Dyna-matted floorpan. The dash and clocks are original and show around 49k miles which I believe to be true to the original car, although not at all verified. I chose to keep all the original switch gear where possible so not to remove the early 911 feel. With a custom trim across the lower dash hiding the unused cutouts (stereo) finished In black perforated leather to match the replaced leatherette roof lining. All the core components are muted in dark tones, contrasting to the body panels with just the classic Recaro seats re-trimmed showing any signs of material colour, these where trimmed in a Steel Blue leather with lighter inserts tributing to period 911’s. (PF911 Interiors, UK). 3” Harnesses finish off the cockpit (Onassis Porsche, France), giving a nod to the cars lively temperament.

Included in the sale I have a body coloured 911 RS front bumper and Duck tail, so the car could be made into an RS tribute should the new owner so wish, although that was never my intention.

She was built to my spec. It’s subtle to look at with matching subtle details, but is loud and raucous when in motion producing a visceral experience unlike any other 911 I have driven (I have owned more than my fair share) . The shell is better than new, and not too far removed from returning it back to a factory narrow body should a future owner feel it’s scarcity (1968 RHD standard wheel base car) influence doing so.. I have all the 1 year only door cards and some interior trim to go with the car.

I have thoroughly enjoyed her for 3 years, and although I said I would never sell I do have another 911 that requires restoration and a hankering for something i can use more frequently (4 kids restricts it’s use for anything other than solo driving) and I am not overly keen on garage queens.. As I am selling to buy another Porsche, if you are looking to Part exchange it could be possible. My 911 appetite is wide and varied, but specifically a 993 / 964 or 3. 2/ SC would be of interest but must be a Manual car.
