Ford Escort Mk IV: 20k mls/ 3 Owners/ Utterly Original
Code named “Erica” the third generation Escort was launched in September 1980. With front wheel drive, hatchback body, independent suspension and new CVH engine the car was an immediate success and was voted European Car of the Year in 1981.
The Mk IV was introduced in March 1986. With only minor changes the new model was in reality more a ‘facelift’ of the Mk III but sales remained strong in the face of strong competition.
In 1990 Mr Kenneth Barnett bought his new Ford Escort 1. 4 GL finished in Diamond White for the sum of £9, 037. 05 from Solomons, the Ford Main Dealer in Camberley. The Escort was his pride and joy and only used for local trips to the shop (once a week) or down to the seafront near to his house in Christchurch.
When Kenneth stopped driving the car passed to a local gentleman and was then purchased at Beaulieu by an engineer/ garage owner who has retained the Escort in his heated & dehumidified storage as part of a private collection. Milestones sold the car to a regular customer earlier this year and were delighted to have the Escort back in part-exchange.

On the road the car drives superbly, the bodywork & paint is all original and the interior is unmarked – the Escort looks, smells & drives like a one-year-old car. The huge history folder includes a full book pack, original Bill of Sale, Service Book with 20 service stamps and masses of invoices – the car was presented annually to the local Ford garage.
The Escort has recently been serviced, had a fluid change and gone through an MOT with no advisories. The work was the replacement of the original exhaust system and silencer (with a factory part) as the original had a minor leak.
We do not believe that there is a better or more usable Mk IV Escort on the market today. A must have for any serious Ford collector to be used, displayed and enjoyed at old Ford meetings and Classic Car Shows to win prizes.
