2006 Ford Focus ST3 in Electric Orange which is arguably the best colour for the ST225 and was its release colour.
Only 89, 000 miles, just had cambelt & water pump service well ahead of 125k schedule and brand new uprated driveshafts with 2 year warranty (common weak point). Also had a new front right arm whilst during recent service. Long MOT until January 2023. Over £1000 spent on it recently and all ready for a new owner to enjoy.
ST3, so usual high spec leather recaros, heated seats, heated windscreen in addition to air con, automatic lights etc. Features an upgraded Pioneer touch screen unit (original sony stereo included) which has DAB, Bluetooth phone, audio, Andorid Auto & Apple Car play and makes the car so much more up to date. Speakers were upgraded as part of this too and everything continues to run off the stereo controls on the steering wheel which is nice touch.
The car is now 16 years old and covered 89k, so some age-related marks & a bit of laquer peel as you would expect and a small bit of bubbling on two of the arches, but overall really good for it’s age and looks fantastic in electric orange (especially in the sun). I got the car early this year, the owner before me had owned it 7 years & only 6 owners in 16 years which is low. During his ownership he upgraded the stereo as above, put in a ram air induction kit (original airbox included) which makes it sound fantastic and gives all the awesome turbo noises, debaged it (original badges included), the Ford badges have a green tint which matches the calipers and interior lights which all link up nicely together. It’s also had a remap, so it’s running more power than standard which you can tell, but no print-out/ proof. Alloys upgraded to 2Forge ZF1 wheels which came at a cost of £1200, they give it a nice stance (see pics) and come on Dunlop performance tyres which have plenty of tread left, they could do with a refurb. The exhaust has had a backbox delete, so it gives a nice sound with some pops on overrun, but not too intrusive. It’s very much OEM+ spec, everything is reversable and a lot of the original parts are included.
Inside it’s very clean, has some orange lined mats which suit it, everything works and has the awesome turbo gauges which come as standard. Rear seats were never used by previous owner, the front seats are in great condition and very hugging. The driver side shows as it bolster wear, but it’s solid and no fraying, it’s quite simply the black from the leather has faded a bit.
The car has 2 keys, for some reason it unlocks on remote, but will only lock on key (not sure why). Has all original manuals in Ford pack, original service book which is stamped up before moving to paper invoices of which there is absolute tonnes including the recent service, cambelt, water pump, driveshafts. Has original electric tyre pump in rear too. HPI clear.
I always wanted one of these, I just love the 5 pot 2. 5 turbo engine which was borrowed from Volvo, it’s just awesome and I feel like it will become collectable in time. So a relatively low mileage & low owner one in orange is the way to go. I’m a mature owner, I use it most days, but just for things like school run, gym, football and actually when you’re not boosting it around it’s quite good MPG in my opinion. You get a lot of low down torque and if you can shift before full boost comes in then its not too thirsty, as with anything, its down to how you drive it. I run it on Super only and I can get by on £25/£30 a week if I drive it sensibly with before mentioned trips.
I think these cars are so much car for your money. Never had a proper fast ford before, but I totally get the appeal, it has all the right things like recaros and turbo gauges and then it just looks, sounds and goes great.
You will find some STs for less (although couldn't find an orange ST3 cheaper), but they'll be lower spec (ST2), category write offs, higher mileage/ owners and heavily modified/ had a hard life. As the old saying goes... buy cheap, buy twice. Have genuinely seen this happen to a few people on the owners club who are then flogging them a week later or selling for spares!
In summary, great car and all serviced with cambelt & new uprated driveshafts which have a 2 year warranty and ready to be enjoyed by a new owner.
