We are delighted to present for sale this RHD, 12v, Petrol Land Rover® Lightweight, which we have sold previously. Lightweights have become increasingly rare in recent times and they are becoming difficult to find in good condition.
Externally, this lightweight has all the military items one would expect on ‘a good one’ – military screw lenses, bonnet mounted spare, rear mounted pioneer tools, front military lifting eyes, twin front tow balls for extra manoeuvrability, rear bumperettes, etc etc. There are some modern, desirable features such as the larger defender style door mirrors for added visibility behind, and a towball and electrics to allow towing. 750 tyres are fitted with the correct military profile to give a good stance.
The interior is largely standard, with three front standard seats, along with matting to the footwells. The heater with front demist survives, along with military flyscreens – both of which can often be missing. The correct fire extinguisher is stored in the passenger footwell, and the convoy switch is still fitted too, along with the passenger handle. There is a red toggle immobiliser for extra security, which is a nice touch. The rear is unfitted, with the exception of a load mat to the floor area. It could, on request, house a pair of bench seats for £595 to bring seating for seven occupants including the driver.
Out on the road, this lightweight delivers a pleasing period drive – the hum of those wheels and tyres on the tarmac is infectious, and the ease of stripping these down with lift off doors and fold down windscreen onto the spare is hugely appealing.
In summary, if you are looking for an original Land Rover® Lightweight which benefits from both MOT & Tax Exemption, then this could be for you. With good quality lightweights now in short supply, it should prove to be a solid investment for the future, whilst no ‘tax and test’ means it should also prove cheaper to run in the longer term.
