Myron Scott, assistant director of General Motors’ PR department, was approved in 1953 to design Chevrolet’s new sports car, the Corvette. The name Corvette was taken from the name of a small manoeuvrable warship of the navy in America at the time. The name Corvette would become synonymous with ‘freedom and adventure’.

The concept was shown to the public at the Motorama of that year, the first copies were delivered at the end of 1953, the birth of a legend. Until today, Chevrolet has designed and produced a total of 8 models of ‘THE american sportscar’.

Our example is a late first series (type C1, a total of 69015 units were built), produced in Saint Lewis, which was first registered in America in February 1962. For several years now, the car has been provided with a Dutch registration and number plate.

Apart from a cosmetic paint job (extremely neatly done) and a new black (vinyl) soft top, this car still appears to be in very original condition. Especially if you look at the interior of the car (ton sur ton), the patina is beautiful and very correct. Chrome work is also very nice and what is also striking is how neat the chassis of our ‘Vette’ is, namely as good as new (proverbial then), no sign of any form of (fly) rust, we don’t see this often.

The 300 hp strong 8 cylinder (RD code), of course in V-shape, is the original (and therefore matching numbers) example, runs like a charm and is driven by a manual gearbox with 4 gears that transfers all power to the rear axle. No lack of power (and sound), partly due to its light polyester body, the C1 shoots from the starting blocks. We can’t confirm but you would almost think that the odometer reading of only 9349 Miles is original, it would fit the overall condition of the car very well.
